About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director of Admissions, Northeastern University, Oakland will join a growing team on Northeastern's Oakland campus, formerly Mills College. This role will design and implement an effective recruitment strategy within a specified domestic or international travel territory for the purpose of evaluating applicants for admission into the University.

The recruitment strategy will include travel within assigned territories to attract and subsequently enroll freshman and transfer students. Responsibilities include counseling and advising students and families regarding the admission process, conducting interviews, and making presentations, maintaining relationships with guidance and transfer counselors, while managing the territory throughout the admission cycle. The Assistant Director will work closely with an assigned constituent group to communicate admissions-related information and serve as an advocate of the constituency in the admissions process. This will include contributing to Admissions engagement with the city of Oakland and the school district.

RESPONSIBILTIES INCLUDE:

  • Design and implement an effective goal-driven recruitment strategy for an assigned geographic area. The strategy should include efficient and cost-effective travel management in these territories while meeting office and University expectations and priorities.

    Attend programs, presentations, and regional events. Meet with, counsel, and inform prospective students, parents, and school counselors. Follow-up and evaluation expected upon return from travel.

  • Complete a review of applications using specified evaluation policies and procedures determined by the management team. The reviews must be thorough and accurate and consistent with careful attention to detail.

    Application evaluations must be completed within specified time periods. Individuals in this position are expected to work the hours required to complete application evaluations within the specified time to accomplish set goals which may include working evenings and/or weekends.

  • Coordinate and manage specific constituent relationships or project(s). Work closely with an assigned constituent group to communicate admissions-related information. Serves as an advocate of the constituency in the admissions process. Effectively manages any assigned project(s) including setting goals in consultation with his/her supervisor, developing and managing timelines, achieving desired results, and producing a final report on the assigned task.

  • Communicate accurate information and effectively counsel all students, parents, guidance and transfer counselors, and other constituents in a timely, professional, and positive manner during all on and off-campus recruitment events including, school visits, information sessions, interviews, campus tours, written correspondence email and phone calls. Fully participates in all training and professional development opportunities. Serves "counselor of the day" for the visitor center.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of admissions counseling techniques, recruitment programming, travel scheduling, student counseling, application evaluation.

  • Ability to make compelling presentations to small and large groups.

  • Proven ability to work independently; excellent written, verbal communication, and organizational skills.

  • Skills and knowledge are typically acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent and one to three years of experience in a student-facing role in college admissions, secondary school admissions, or a related experience in another higher education setting required.

  • Valid U.S. driver's license and clean driving record.

  • The ability to lift and move recruitment materials weighing up to 30 pounds. Fluency in speaking a foreign language is highly desirable.

The annualized salary for this position is $69,173.15
