The College's Office of Undergraduate and Specialized Master's Programs Admissions team plays a critical role in the success of the College through recruiting and engaging with high quality candidates for our undergraduate and specialized professional master's programs. This past year, the two undergraduate business programs attracted approximately 6600 applications, yielding approximately 370 students to Cornell. This admissions team is composed of energetic, collaborative, and knowledgeable individuals who are passionate about finding top-tier applicants, are united through a shared vision to elevate the status of our programs and are committed to Cornell's core values of diversity and inclusion as essential for individual and organizational success.

This Position:

Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of Admissions Operations and in coordination with the Undergraduate Admissions Office, the Assistant Director of Admissions executes SC Johnson College of Business recruitment and yield strategies to build its pool of diverse, qualified applicants, and to ultimately select and enroll excellent students for its undergraduate programs in the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management and the Cornell Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration.

The role's primary strategic objective is to contribute to the depth and diversity of the prospective applicant pool by building the communication strategy for prospective students, including email campaigns, web and social media content and information session presentations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prospect-communications specialist on the undergraduate admissions team, responsible for proposing and executing the email communications schedule to prospective and admitted undergraduate business applicants. This includes identifying the themes of the email campaign for each prospect stream, and then determining the message, layout with graphics, call to action, dates of release, and appropriate follow up messaging for responses.

  • The liaison with Enrollment Communications and a college-authorized user of the emailing messaging platform embedded in Slate. The Assistant Director of Admissions will attend all Slate CRM communication planning meetings, represent the interests of the college and all college prospects to the university-wide admissions team, and share the college email recruitment strategy with the larger admissions community. The Assistant Director of Admissions is responsible for all formatting, testing, and scheduling of the undergraduate email campaigns within the Slate CRM. Slate is the only method used for email outreach with prospects.

  • Designated liaison with the college's own Marketing and Communications Office on topics relating to all undergraduate college of business outward-facing admissions webpages presenting information for prospective applicants, applicants, and admitted students.

  • Creates visual images, text, and talking points for all public presentations used in recruitment and yield for on-campus (information sessions, Cornell Days, etc.), off-campus (information sessions, high school, and community college visits) and e-events (virtual information sessions, webinars and chats).

  • Manages a geographical region for application review (first year and transfer) and is expected to review approximately 2,000 undergraduate applications every year.

  • Trained in application review for college specialized master's programs and will participate in graduate application review in March and April as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.

  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

  • Bachelor's degree with two to four years of relevant experience.

  • Excellent communication skills: writing, speaking (including presentations).

  • Strong interpersonal skills and service orientation.

  • Social media web management experience, ideally in a professional context.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders, prospective undergraduate and graduate applicants, parents, guidance counselors, faculty and others.

  • Analytical thinker; problem solver.

  • Technical aptitude; strong Excel skills, word processing, databases, CRM and related systems.

  • High energy, initiative, enthusiasm.

  • Collaborative, team oriented.

  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks within time constraints.

  • Handle multiple tasks and audiences.

  • Sound judgment, confidentiality, and discretion.

  • Organized; ability to plan and work per a schedule/calendar.

  • Ability to travel and organize travel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree preferred.

  • Second language fluency (including writing and speaking), especially Spanish or Mandarin.

  • SEO, web analytics, HTML knowledge and experience.

  • Experience in: Customer service; Higher Education; Professional sales, marketing, communications; Event planning; Hospitality or related field; University recruitment and communications.

  • Experience with PeopleSoft, CollegeNet or application software, CRM systems (Slate).

  • Experience with WordPress and Adobe, including Photoshop.
