Position Overview

We seek an experienced Assistant Director of Admissions to support our dynamic program for gifted students. For almost 40 years, The School has served the needs of highly capable students in the Seattle metropolitan area.  We are a K-8 school by design. Guided by our mission—to nurture and inspire students of high intellectual potential—our program is rigorous, authentic, engaging, and fun with a strong emphasis on social-emotional learning at every grade and in every discipline. Our admissions profile is strong; we currently draw from 38 zip codes, enroll 67% students of color, and have an acceptance rate of 25%. Expanding the diversity of our applicant pool is an important strategic initiative.

The Assistant Director of Admissions works with the Director of Enrollment Management and Outreach to recruit and enroll a strong, diverse, mission-aligned student body. The person filling this position will help lead the admissions process from recruitment to inquiry to enrollment. They are a team player and an innovative problem-solver who will take initiative to continually review, refine, and improve the admissions process to serve increasing demand. They support families, partner with teachers and  administrators, and represent the school to the greater Seattle/Bellevue community, demonstrating knowledge of and passion for the school’s unique, SEL-focused approach to gifted education. This position reports to the Director of Enrollment Management & Outreach and the Head of School.

Major Areas of Responsibility/Specific Duties:

  • Organize all admissions events, including on and off campus events, admissions tours, information sessions, admission fairs, applicant visits, committee meetings, welcome receptions, yield events.
  • Set-up, process, maintain, and monitor applicant files and materials.
  • Serve as one of the primary points of contact for all prospective families.
  • Organize and participate in admissions committees with a focus on building a mission-aligned, diverse student body.
  • Track data related to admissions, retention, diversity, financial aid, and other strategic goals of the school.
  • Support the financial aid process as needed.
  • Support the outplacement process as needed.
  • Update processes, procedures, and materials annually to best serve families and the school.
  • Actively engage in the life of the school.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualities & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or relevant experience.
  • Commitment to the school’s mission, core values, and Diversity Statement.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
  • Three or more years of progressively responsible admissions experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong collaboration skills with a positive outlook.
  • Highly organized and professional with strong attention to detail.
  • Takes initiative to solve problems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.  
  • Ability to work with groups of people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to manage confidential information.
  • Experience in K-8 and gifted education is a plus.
  • Kind and curious.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office. Willingness to learn new technology, including Ravenna-Admit, as needed.

Position Details:

Manager:                                Director of Enrollment Management & Outreach and the Head of School

Compensation:                       $67,750 - $77,750 per year

Position Classification:            Exempt, Full Time, 12 months

Hours:                                            Core business hours of 8am – 4pm, occasional weekend and evening work required.
