Position Summary Information

Position Purpose

The Assistant Director will supervise Act 101 Program key student engagement areas: student support services and educational programming relevant towards enhancing the overall Act 101 student experience. The Assistant Director is responsible for other assignments and duties required to fulfill University or departmental goals and objectives.

Description of Duties

  • Assume supervision of the program in the absence of the Executive Director. Demonstrate thorough decision making and concrete knowledge of the PA Act 101 Program and PHEAA-Act 101 Program Guidelines.

  • Manage and coordinate academic enrichment activities for Act 101 students commencing in the bridge program. The incumbent will collaborate on the development of social and cultural activities during the bridge program and academic year.

  • Serve as key lead for Act 101 Program student outreach and response; sets goals for increasing student engagement during the academic year.

  • Assist in preparing student engagement data for Act 101 Program reports, with considerable attention to detail and adhering to deadlines.

  • Consult with the Office of Financial Aid to provide the most appropriate financial assistance for students admitted under the Act 101 Program. Assist students in completing financial aid applications, as appropriate.

  • Provide advisory services to parents and students concerning the bridge program. This process involves a significant education of the parents of first-generation college students. The incumbent must address various socio-economic conditions to ensure parents appropriately comply with financial aid and other University criteria.

  • Oversee and periodically evaluate financial aid records of program students.

  • Attend required meetings and contributes to dynamics and initiatives of the TEAM.

  • Assist in the recruitment and selection of Act 101 students and in the administration of their placement testing, as applicable.

  • Contribute to and foster a student-centric living-learning environment; academic support and engagement must be student-centered, in partnership with students and key stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with staff and faculty on the support activities for Act 101 students on academic probation and Act 101 students reinstated from academic dismissal.

  • Assist with EOP student engagement activities, as necessary and appropriate.

Decision Making

  • Contribute to Act 101 Program enrollment management processes.

  • Assist in the administration of placement testing.

  • Make recommendations regarding reinstatement of dismissed students;

  • Develop programs to meet the social and psychological needs of students;

  • Advise students on financial aid matters;

  • Recommend sources of aid to students;

  • In consultation with students, develop cultural and social programming;

  • Collaborate with the TEAM and contribute to the collective TEAM's decision-making.

  • Serve as lead supervisor for Act 101 student engagement;

  • Assist in the training and supervision of the graduate assistant(s) and Peer Mentors;

  • Assist in the training and supervision of work study students.

  • Upon recommendation by the executive director, share in the supervision of an administrative assistant.

Minimum Requirements Profile

  • Master's Degree in counseling, psychology, social work, college student development or another relevant field

  • Three years' experience working in higher education with college access and opportunity programs

  • Knowledge of educational disparities faced by BIPOC, minority and low-income students

Preferred Qualifications

At least four years working with a diverse college student population.
