Job Description:

The Assistant Director facilitates access to courses, programs, services, activities, and facilities. The Assistant Director works in collaboration with the Director of Access and Opportunity Programs to lead and oversee the operations of the programs. In addition, the Assistant Director works in collaboration with students and other campus community members to develop and implement best practices in promoting inclusive design and determining and providing reasonable accommodations.

Position Description:

  • This role will assume a leadership position and supervise staff and operations, providing direction and support to staff for student success and retention.

  • Engages with students to identify barriers to full participation in curricular and co-curricular environments and determine appropriate accommodations, reviewing additional sources of information as needed.

  • Manages the interactive process for housing, dining, and academic requests, leading to the provision of equal access in consultation with students, faculty, staff, and relevant individuals.

  • Review all documentation pertaining to students' disabilities and determine and assign reasonable accommodation.

  • Serves as a subject matter expert by maintaining up-to-date knowledge and understanding of relevant state and federal laws, trends, and best practices in the field of disability services in higher education

  • Assist with Summer College and Transition Programs planning and execution

  • Maintain accurate program records and interactive processes, prepare reports, and evaluate staff performance to enhance program effectiveness

  • Participates actively in the continuing development of resources, programs, and activities. Advocating for program goals and fostering diversity and inclusion.

  • Plan, facilitate, and assess programming that promotes understanding of the experiences of people with disabilities and how environmental and attitudinal barriers hinder an inclusive campus climate.

  • Engage in all access programming featuring prospective students and families and accessibility-related events on occasional evenings and weekends.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field (Master's Degree preferred)

  • Minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in the provision of disability services in an educational setting.

  • Experience in a supervisory role.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to set priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Special Education, Vocational Rehabilitation, Psychology, Counseling, and/or Social Work or a closely related field

  • Three years of experience working with people with disabilities or equivalent.

  • Experience in counseling students who are disadvantaged or from diverse cultural backgrounds is highly desirable.

  • Experience working in higher education and/ or in access programs

  • Knowledge of federal and state disability laws and regulations.

  • Demonstrated experience applying disability laws in the accommodation process that provides a framework for disability services.

Additional Information:

  • Salary: $60,000-$65,000 (DOQ)

  • Work Schedule: Full-time

  • Reports to: Director of Accessibility and Opportunity Programs,

  • This is a 12-month position
