Job Summary

The Assistant Director has overall responsibility for need analysis, central processing/verification, Student Forms portal, professional judgment special circumstance appeals, and the supervision of the staff involved in with these processes. Works closely with Associate Director and programming staff (both internal and external to DFA) to coordinate all system analysis and programming activities related to areas of responsibility.

Annually reviews/tests system upgrades and is responsible for training DFA staff for areas of responsibility. Serves as a member of the management team within the Division of Financial Aid for daily operations and contributes to the development of short and long-term planning. Advises students, parents and others concerning financial aid programs, eligibility criteria, application procedures and the awarding and disbursement procedures. Possesses financial aid knowledge and uses that knowledge to determine initial eligibility for aid and revises financial aid eligibility based on changes in student and/or family circumstances using professional judgment

What You Will Be Doing :

Coordinate, plan, direct, and oversee all day-to-day activities and the staff who complete the activities for need analysis, and all other areas.

Recommend policy for areas of responsibility and implement procedures including designing quality control reports.

Annually review and test system upgrades in areas of responsibility.

Serve as liaison with both internal DFA programming staff and external programming staff.

Evaluate, revise and maintain financial aid programs, policies, procedures, and processing manuals for areas of responsibility.

Participate in ongoing training and attend professional conferences as needed to remain abreast of procedural and regulatory requirements of program areas.

Oversee and direct employees who will provide students, parents, and other publics with information concerning federal, state, institutional and private financial aid programs.

Responsible for hiring, training on area specific job responsibilities and performance evaluation of direct reports.

Establish priorities of projects for area staff.

Serve as the primary liaison for areas of responsibilities between the Division of Financial Aid and the following offices: Purdue IT team, Campus Logic software provider.

Advise students, parents, and others concerning financial aid programs (federal, state, institutional, and privately funded).

Support financial aid team in outreach activities within the University and through outside events.

Handle any urgent calls or complaints received as needed before referral to Associate Director or Executive Director.

Plan workload and assist in training of student support during the summer/academic year (non-direct report).

Train full-time staff individually and as a group multiple times throughout the year

Perform other duties as assigned.

What We Are Looking For :

Required:

Bachelor's Degree

A minimum of 4 years of professional experience in an administrative setting

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Must be a US citizen.

Preferred:

Experience in financial aid or higher education and supervision.

Interpersonal communication skills and an ability to communicate effectively orally and through email with a diverse group of students, parents, and colleagues.

Strong technological skillset (familiarity with software and Microsoft Suite).

Excellent analytical skills: attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
