Utah Valley University is seeking a GEAR UP Assistant Director! GEAR UP Utah is a college-readiness program that assists low-income students to successfully graduate from high school and be prepared to enter and succeed in post-secondary education.
The Assistant Director will provide opportunities for leadership growth by working to support a committed and diverse staff; assist counselors and administrative staff with implementing the program within federal regulations; provide development and guidance to staff and partners; work to build relationships with school, college, and community entities; evaluate program and federal reports with data coordinator and contract consultants; and be a liaison for the university and GEAR UP Utah.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in a directly related field and two years' experience related to the Summary of Duties; OR a combination of education and/or experience totaling eight years.
Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a master's degree in counseling, psychology, education, social science, or a related field or a related field.
Multilingual.Knowledge
Knowledge of working with college student populations, academic counseling, high school student retention and graduation strategies, college-readiness. Strategies, and first-generation college student preparation.
Strong commitment to social and racial justice.
Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications including Microsoft Office, Teams, texting platforms, and social media.
Skills
Strong supervisor and leadership skills.
Effective interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and public-relations skills.
Abilities
Ability to accurately interpret and communicate to personnel, partners, and external parties the objectives and goals of the GEAR UP grant.
Ability to develop, implement, and maintain programs.
Ability to assist personnel and partners in implementing GEAR UP objectives and goals correctly.
Ability to collaborate effectively with personnel, partners, and external parties.
Ability to give effective feedback to personnel and partners.
Ability to receive feedback and implement changes as needed.
Ability to work independently on a multi-task level and prioritize and follow projects and assignments through to completion in a timely manner.
Ability to create presentations and present them effectively and professionally to diverse audiences.

Ability to work with personnel, partners, and external entities at their places of work or other locations.
Ability to visit students and families in schools, their homes, or other locations as needed.
Ability to operate a state-provided vehicle and have a valid driver's license.
