The Assistant Director of Housekeeping serves as a vital member of the Housing Leadership Team. The Assistant Director is a key player in leading a mission and values driven organization serving an on campus student population of approximately 6,400 students in 40 buildings and 1.8 million square feet. The position includes developmental supervision of 6 full time professional team leads. The Assistant Director is responsible for: development and administering housekeeping services for the residence halls; setting and reinforcing operational policies and procedures for staff; budget preparation and administration of approximately 3 million dollars; developing recruitment and retention programs for staff; supporting staff; creating training programs for staff; procurement of supplies and equipment.

  • 3 years of housekeeping management experience. Working knowledge of housekeeping program development and planning.

  • Knowledge of safety/OSHA standards. Experience with inventory control.

  • Software skills: proficient with Microsoft Office suite.

  • Financial analysis skills related to housekeeping management. Purchasing and procurement experience is necessary.

  • A valid driver's license.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Position prefers candidates with strong oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish languages.

  • 3-5 years full-time supervisory experience in higher education.

  • Highly effective interpersonal communication skills in 1 on 1 and group settings, and as a presenter / trainer; demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

  • Ability to effectively communication and connect with individuals with lived experience different than their own.

  • Strong organizational, planning, analytic, and problem-solving skills; demonstrated crisis management skills; excellent judgment and ability to handle challenging conversations with students, staff, collaborators, and student family members; demonstrated experience effectively training professional and student staff in multiple topic areas.

  • Experience running searches for professional and student staff; experience facilitating restorative and challenging dialogues.

Duty/Responsibility

Supervision:

  • Provide direct weekly highly effective supervision, individualized ongoing professional development and feedback, and performance review of 6 professional staff.

  • Lead project teams with additional professional staff in specific job areas overseen by the Assistant Director.

  • Indirectly supervise approximately 50-75 professional and student staff.

  • Provide oversight, training, and direction for weekly meetings with supervisees to discuss strategies and ideas in relation to housekeeping operations.

  • Develop data driven and best practice expertise in functional areas.

  • Solicit and be responsive to feedback to help foster a participative and productive work environment.

  • Recruit, train, support, and find ways to retain team leads and building service workers.

Duty/Responsibility

Departmental Responsibilities:

  • Inspire all staff to embrace the department's mission, vision, and values.

  • Work with other members of the leadership team to assess, implement, and continually evaluate our mission, vision, and values.

  • Each Assistant Director has decision-making authority for certain department-wide responsibilities.

  • Maintain and oversee standards and specifications for cleanliness in all residence halls.

  • Develop and implement a quality assurance program to include a formalized inspection process with reported results.

  • Review and execute programs for routine academic year cleaning, and restorative cleaning when able.

  • Provide progress reporting to Housing Leadership Team and the Director.

  • Recommend department policy and procedural changes.

Duty/Responsibility

Administrative and Overall Department Management:

  • Work with Housing Leadership Team and other staff to assess, implement, and analyze our mission and values.

  • Develop and manage the equipment program to include inventory tracking and control, repairs, preventative maintenance and the development and implementation of an annual replacement program.

  • Work with USNH procurement in acquiring new equipment through formalized bids or comparative pricing through term contract vendors.

  • Utilize the surplus/scrap program when replacing old equipment.

  • Review and analyze information in relation to survey data, qualitative data.

  • Develop goals, objectives and assessment for assigned areas of responsibility.

  • Demonstrate commitment to professional development and engagement in activities on campus that connect housekeeping staff.

  • Develop and facilitate ongoing training for professional and student housekeeping staff on a variety of topics.

  • Assist the Director of Housing in the development of the Housing budget.

  • The annual budget for Housing is approximately $54 million; assume direct responsibility for managing certain accounts within the department budget.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Collaborate with Campus Partners:

  • Maintain positive and effective relationships with multiple departments, vendors, and organizations outside of the Housing department.

  • Successfully collaborate with many campus partners to benefit the overall campus climate and student experience.

  • Cultivate and maintain positive and effective working relationships with multiple departments and organizations in Student Life.

  • Regularly talk with Human Resources and the Civil Rights and Equity Office to talk through personnel concerns and to develop training for staff.

  • This includes professional and student organizations.

  • Participate as a member of divisional teams and committees and/or assume leadership of such teams as appropriate.

  • Be a reliable, positive representative of the department focusing on strengthening our services to students, staff, and summer guests.

Duty/Responsibility

Crisis Management and On Call:

  • Participate in an on-call rotation to respond and represent the Department of Housing during facilities emergencies.

  • Manage restoration efforts including communication with staff, students and parents following emergencies.
