The Assistant Director Fraternity and Sorority Life is a member of the Student Involvement and Leadership team and reports to the Associate Director Leadership and Community Engagement. This role oversees the efforts to enhance and support the Greek community on campus and provide leadership to the chapters. This position is the primary advisor, resource person and support for the social fraternities and sororities and the governing councils for Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 3 years relevant experience OR Master's degree with 1 year of relevant experience.

  • Experience should be in fraternity and sorority life, program management, leadership development, student affairs, leadership training / development, student activities programming, major event coordination or other closely relevant experience (Student work experience and Graduate Assistant experience acceptable).

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.

  • Excellent leadership, organization, interpersonal, and oral/written/presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work evening and weekend hours.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree

  • Membership in a social Greek organization.

  • Experience in student risk management.

  • Experience facilitating leadership programs.

  • Experience in the assessment of educational outcomes.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the latest computing and technology for the student affairs area including web-based applications and/or desktop publishing.

  • Social media knowledge

  • Experience with Engage

Essential Functions and percent of time:

Fraternity and Sorority Life Leadership 35%

  • With leadership, develop plans and goals for new or revised leadership programs, services, policies, and practices that enhance Greek community and student culture.

  • Oversees the development, marketing, implementation, and assessment of the F/S community.

  • Serves as the advisor to the Panhellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council and Fraternity & Sorority Council. Develops goals and objectives to align FSL with University Mission.

  • Supports chapters in the assessment of chapter health, development of strategic priorities, and their understanding of institutional expectations and adherence to institutional policies.

  • Supports and attends FSL functions and campus events, as appropriate, to maintain a visible and supportive staff presence.

  • Advises/manages the education, assessment, and membership growth of FSL to ensure it follows applicable policies and procedures.

  • Supports expansion and extension of new fraternities/sororities with undergraduate, alumni/ae, volunteers and international organization staff.

  • Serves as the advisor for Panhellenic Recruitment, including assisting in selection and training of CPH recruitment counselors as well as assisting and support councils in safe and inclusive recruitment and intake processes.

  • Advises presidents of each fraternity/sorority chapter and ensures completion of Accreditation program for FSL.

  • Works directly with advisors and the international headquarters to ensure each chapter is meeting and exceeding the expectations of the international organization.

  • Provides timely and accurate reports to the Associate Director Leadership and Community Engagement related to any incidents or concerns relating to FSL.

  • Creates and establishes ongoing methods for engaging campus partners in the advising, leadership development, and programming of Greek communities.

  • Communicates, interprets, and enforces University policies and expectations to students, advisors and inter/national headquarters.

Student Development 20%

  • Provides general education, direction, management, and leadership development opportunities to enhance these Greek Letter Organizations.

  • Develops and cultivates relationships with campus partners and outside organizations to enhance educational and programming opportunities for fraternity and sorority members.

  • Assists students in problem-solving and respond appropriately to challenges and/or crises. Creates council and chapter level educational programming regarding leadership development, DEI, alcohol and sexual assault awareness, bystander intervention and other risk management topics. Collaborates with student leaders to ensure that all new members are provided with an education.

  • Budget permitting, travel with a student delegation to the AFLV Central Annual Conference.

Essential Functions and percent of time (cont'd):

Assessment 20%

  • Maintains and updates Banner Admin records and provides reports necessary to assess the FSL community.

  • Creates the semester academic report.

  • Gathers information relating to retention of members, community service hours, and philanthropic dollars raised.

  • Creates an annual report pertaining to the successes of FSL and provide the report to stakeholders including advisors, alumni, international headquarters, and partners in the University.

  • Assists in the production, collection, and management of accurate FSL membership records, recruitment statistics, housing information, and scholarship reports.

  • Coordinates FSL Accreditation process and FSL Awards.

  • Works with council leaders to reimagine and elevate the prestige of the awards.

Supervision 15%

  • Hires, supervises, trains and mentors paid student leaders for FSC.

  • Educates students based on the core competencies of the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors.

  • Encourages participation in AFLV Awards and Assessment, NPC Awards and IFC Awards opportunities.

  • Works closely with the Associate Director Leadership and Community Engagement to supervise the Graduate Assistant for FSL and Leadership.

  • Supports retention and engagement initiatives of the division and university.

Leadership Programming 5%

  • Coordinates First-Class Leadership Pathway and pilots the program with Emerging Leaders in Fraternity & Sorority Life.

  • Serves as staff logistical support to Established Leader Retreat and Take Flight Leadership Retreat.

  • Supports the training and education for peer leaders for Established Leader Retreat and Take Flight.

Budget and Marketing 5%

  • Reviews and approves all expenditures for FSL councils.

  • Assists in creation of SOBC budget requests for all councils.

  • Develops marketing materials and social media campaigns to promote the FSL community.

  • Works collaboratively with members of the SIL staff to plan and implement signature Serves in various capacities on departmental and divisional committees to educate and advocate on behalf of FSL.

Other duties as assigned.

Non-Essential Functions and percent of time: Working Conditions

Primarily office environment, some outdoor work for events. Evening and weekend work is required.
