The Assistant Director of Residential Life provides day-to-day leadership, supervision, and oversight of the Office of Residential Life, a housing program serving 1500 or more students. Specifically, the Assistant Director is responsible for providing assistance and support for the strategic planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of a multifaceted Residential Life program by developing and supporting Residential Life staff members and providing direction and oversight to Residential Learning Coordinators in the residence hall management and operations. In addition, the Assistant Director manages all University room assignment processes and Adirondack's The Housing Director software.
Major Responsibilities:
Provide assistance and support for the strategic planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of a multifaceted Residential Life program
Provide oversight to Residential Learning Coordinators to ensure successful management of residence hall facilities, including but not limited to building physical plant issues, opening and closing procedures, key inventory, and hall vandalism
Manage all room assignment processes for the regular academic year, break housing, and summer school periods
Respond to or initiate contact with parents as appropriate, maintaining requirements of confidentiality while demonstrating care and understanding
Represent Residential Life through participation in institutional decision-making, university-wide committees and teams, and regular attendance at campus functions
In conjunction with the Division of Student Life leadership team, provide crisis management support for campus emergencies, and serve as a member of the division's after-hours on-call team
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Bachelor's degree required
Master's degree college student personnel (or a related field) strongly preferred
A minimum of three years of full-time residential life and/or housing experience are required
Demonstrated skills in organizational leadership, crisis management, advising, problem-solving, and interpersonal, oral, and written communication
Demonstrated a commitment to diversity and the ability to work with individuals or groups from diverse backgrounds
Other Qualifications:
Experience with Adirondack's The Housing Director software
Experience with direct and administrative supervision of professional staff
A high degree of energy, patience, and sensitivity to the academic and personal needs of college students
