General

Summary:
The Hop-In Program supports of the success of first-generation students, low-income students, and/or students with disabilities by providing a year round high-touch, intentional, and holistic advising model consisting of a summer program, leadership development, mentoring, and academic support. The Assistant Director, Hop-In Programming will be responsible for the development and implementation of educational and community building programs and events to ensure a balanced educational and social environment for Hop-In students. This position will also be responsible for providing collaborative support for campus programs and events to promote a clear pipeline and partnership between Hop-In and other departments at Johns Hopkins University.
The Assistant Director, Hop-In Programming must be creative and innovative, possess a willingness and talent for engaging students, have experience in program planning, development, and implementation, and an appreciation for the student centered mission of the Center for Student Success. This positon occasionally supports collaborative programming between Hop-In, Johns Hopkins Underrepresented in Medicine Program (JUMP), and the First Generation and Limited Income (FLI) Initiatives. The work schedule will be developed around program demands which include evenings and weekends. This is a full time positon.
Essential Functions:
Program Coordination
Work with Director to coordinate workshops, events and trips for the Hop-In Summer Program.
Coordinate academic year daytime, evening, and weekend programs with other campus departments and organizations (i.e. Student Life, Academic Affairs, Residence Life, as well as multicultural and other student organizations).
Collaborate with Financial Aid and Academic Support Services to coordinate financial aid and academic support (workshops, coaching, etc.) programs for CSS (Hop-In, JUMP, SYE, Athletics Advising) students as appropriate.
Support the Hop-In Director to implement collaborative career networking events with alumni, faculty, students, Career Center staff, and other appropriate constituents.
Collaborate with the Counseling Center staff to coordinate workshops and support groups to assist students emotional adjustment to college (e.g., self-care, family related issues, anxiety management, etc.).
Support the Director in developing and maintaining a system to track student participation in research, internship, civic engagement, creative activity, and service learning opportunities.
Provide on-site supervision of events and activities as appropriate.
Advising
Responsible for providing individual and holistic academic coaching to Hop-In participants from matriculation to graduation utilizing the Hop-In curriculum (n= 40-50).
Outreach to and meet regularly with students to discuss needs, monitor academic progress, and assist with the resolution of academic and personal challenges.
Monitor Hop-In advisees academic performance via the University early alert system and maintain on-going contact with academic advisors and faculty.
Provide counseling and goal-focused coaching services for individuals and groups in order to advise students on career-related issues including major choice, internships, full-time employment, graduate school opportunities, and other post baccalaureate positions.
Public Relations
Develop and manage dissemination of office publications including the newsletter, brochures, the Hop-In website, Facebook and other social media.
Represent the CSS at undergraduate recruitment forums for parents and students as well as other relevant University programs.
Represent the CSS at New Student Orientation, Family Weekend and other University events as appropriate.
Administrative
Develop and implement appropriate methods and procedures to provide effective and successful social, cultural, and educational activities for students.
Develop and manage programming-related budget and logistical outlines.
Conduct program evaluations and produce individual event reports as well as semester participation reports.
Education:
Masters degree in multicultural education, higher education administration, intercultural communication, event planning, student affairs administration, counseling, or other related field required.
Required Qualifications- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
At least 3 years of relevant experience in designing, coordinating, and evaluating educational, social, or cultural activities and/or leadership programs.
Experience should include advising and mentoring students in a structured academic program.
Experience should include working in an environment with competing priorities that require the coordination and management of students, resources, and timelines.
Proven ability to work across organizational boundaries as an effective member of a team, and a demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a wide range of campus and community constituencies.
Preferred Qualifications- Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
A demonstrated understanding of best practices in providing academic support to high-achieving first generation, limited/low-income populations at a highly selective institution preferred.
A demonstrated understanding of the mission of a complex, decentralized research university.
Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication, organizational, and project management skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to implement marketing strategies that complement strong program planning and event execution skills.
Demonstrated ability to effectively and efficiently perform duties and responsibilities with attention to detail and support for organizational policies, as well as the ability to anticipate demands/pressures of assignments and adjust accordingly.
Professional maturity that will foster a positive work environment as well as a professional mentoring and advising relationship with students.
Ability to take initiative, work independently, and as part of a team.
Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with computers and basic software applications including Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of college students.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
