Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Global Education, the successful candidate will assist in the designing, implementing, and overseeing processes of international student recruitment, scholar services, education abroad, and comprehensive internationalization strategic initiatives. Individuals with a quest for learning, creative problem-solving skills, and commitment to continuous improvement will thrive in this position. The Global Education Office is under the supervision of the Office of the Provost. Position responsibilities include serving as a liaison with university offices, student organizations, and community organizations.

Key Responsibilities:

Admissions and Recruitment:

  • Coordinate admissions, scholarship, visa, and enrollment process for all international freshman, exchange, and transfer students

  • Participate in student recruitment, including international travel for four to six weeks per year

  • Assist in management of a growing network of commission-based international agents, and facilitate university partnerships, and articulation agreements to substantially grow international student enrollment

  • Manage lead generation/yield conversion and related marketing and communication plan

Education Abroad

  • Manage and advise existing faculty-led, short-term programs annually. Guide faculty through all phases of program development and implementation

  • Collaborate with the Director of Global Education and MU academic departments in the development of new short-term, faculty-led programs with regard to logistics, on-site safety and emergency response resources, budgets and faculty remuneration, and approval through the appropriate MU channels

  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Academic Advising team to execute the marketing of all Education Abroad/Away Opportunities

Student Support and Programs:

  • Serve as a DSO (designated school official) and maintain current knowledge of regulations governing international student relations; assists students in complying with government regulations concerning status, immigration, visas, passports, permission to work, and related matters

  • Assist the PDSO in all immigration protocols and procedures such as SEVIS check-ins, CPT, OPT Authorization, creation of I-20s and maintenance of the SEVIS system

  • Partner with Director of GEO to lead major events and informative workshops for international students such as international student orientation, President's reception, etc.

  • Provide transportation for arriving or departing students, and for special trips (must be on the MU Driver's List)

  • Serve as a liaison to departments, offices, faculty, staff, and students, working with international student program issues to resolve concerns, clarify policies, and support collaboration

  • Train and supervise all student workers; maintain time records

Administrative duties:

  • Develop and update departmental policies, training manuals and annual reports as assigned

  • Participates in office and department retreats and staff meetings as appropriate

  • Liaisons with various campus and government offices including but not limited to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Department of State, Social Security Administration, the NC Department of Transportation (DMV), various embassies and sponsoring agencies

  • Monitors overall budgeting, goal setting, office planning, management of electronic databases, and special projects.

  • Maintains and updates the content on the GEO Education Abroad website and relevant publications

  • Represent GEO in various campus initiatives, committees, and New Student Orientation.

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Master's Degree is required, business administration, international education, or related field

  • Two or more years of experience in international student recruitment, student services and/or education abroad

  • Posses a valid driver's license

  • Ability to travel internationally; up to four-six weeks per academic year. Ability to travel, work evenings, and weekends when necessary

  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills

  • Computer proficiency with CRM systems, computer applications, database maintenance, and web based technology

  • Effective organizational skills with constructive stress and time management

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Effective public speaker in small and large groups

  • Great interpersonal and intercultural communication skills; demonstrated the ability to work with diverse populations

  • Commitment to learning, continuous improvement and development of creative solutions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluent in one or more foreign language; bilingual/multilingual preferred

  • Must be flexible and able to handle multiple tasks

  • Demonstrated leadership through broad institutional outreach or active involvement in international educational associations such as (NAFSA, NCAIE, CIEE, Forum on Education Abroad), etc.

  • Working knowledge of immigration regulations pertaining to non-immigrant F-1visa holders

  • Working knowledge of tax regulations and treaties for non-immigrant F-1 visa holder

  • Experienced with setting budgets and managing program finances.

  • Experienced in leading orientation programs or workshops.

  • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member and experience in supervising student workers.

  • Experienced managing and/or developing study abroad faculty-led programs.

  • Experienced in living, working, or studying abroad for a minimum of six months.
