At a Glance!  The Assistant Director for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will champion efforts towards the Associated Students of LCC's (ASLCC) goal to create a more equitable, inclusive, and diverse environment where all students feel a sense of belonging and achieve individual success. This position is a leader and change agent who will develop, enhance, support, and implement critically important student support resources. The responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, establishing student-focused DEI support services, managing the diversity and equity center, developing and maintaining programs and services that directly support student retention and engagement and enhance the student experience and sense of belonging. Reporting to the Executive Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, the Assistant Director will support the college's efforts in creating a welcoming and inclusive culture for our campus community.  

Who you are: The Assistant Director will have a strong passion for disrupting systemic barriers and supporting diverse individuals, demonstrate a deep understanding of DEI best practices, and possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. The Assistant Director is a strategic catalyst who enjoys innovating and collaborating with others, and successfully develops partnerships across campus.

The Assistant Director position is 40 hours per week. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, but includes nights, weekend, and over-night student travel as the program necessitates. This position provides direct student support and is primarily an on-site position, with limited ability to work remote/hybrid. This position is exempt under FLSA and reports to the Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion.

  • Oversee and support student DEI initiatives, including the oversight and maintenance of the Diversity and Equity Center, expansion of DEI programming and activities, and community support 
  • Co-advise and partner with the ASLCC Diversity and Equity Director to develop programming that takes place in the Diversity and Equity Center and across campus
  • Develop and implement a cultural, interpersonal, and identity focused year-round programming model
  • Establish a sense of inclusion and belonging in the Diversity and Equity Center
  • Develop, implement, and facilitate professional and personal development trainings to support students
  • Provide support and serve as a visible ally to our campus community
  • Develop peer mentoring training curriculum in partnership with campus partners
  • Facilitate conversations around various equity & inclusion topics with students
  • Support the Executive Director in developing, implementing, and evaluating its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) strategic plan, including ensuring compliance with state mandated DEI efforts, and cultivating engagement of the strategic initiatives at all levels of the organization.
  • Serve on the Diversity & Equity Committee as an ex-officio member and collaborate with the DEI Committee to lead and implement initiatives within the DEI Strategic Plan
  • Develop and maintain an inventory of DEI resources for students
  • Prepare and disseminate information on equity-related initiatives, activities and outcomes regarding the effectiveness, relevance, and success of DEI programming at LCC, including ways our campus community can engage in the efforts
  • Collaborate between ASLCC and Effectiveness & College Relations to manage DEI webpages, develop and update materials relating to DEI, and evaluate institutional data to support decision making
  • Build quality community partnerships to support advancement of DEI work at LCC
  • Meet regularly with the student government to provide updates, discuss current initiatives and goals, and partner with programming.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee an evidence-based peer mentorship program focused expanding supports for historically underrepresented students
  • Utilize campus partnerships to identify methods to connect first year students with mentors to support student retention
  • Serve as a search advocate on search committees for hiring faculty and staff
  • Serve as a representative to the Multicultural Student Services Directors Council (MSSDC)
  • May serve as the co-advisor to identity-based students club and organizations

  • Bachelor's degree in related field OR (Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education)
  • Demonstrated commitment and passion to promote inclusive excellence and equity
  • Two (2) years of related experienced around diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, program development and assessment
  • A demonstrated understanding and valuing of how social justice informs how students can positively contribute to workforce goals; including how identity impacts students' campus life experience.
  • A demonstrated understanding of how systems of oppression and marginalization affect students' educational experiences, and how to address them.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Proficiency in computer programs/software (some examples include: Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications, recruitment systems, databases, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in related field
  • Experience in higher education
  • Bilingual (Spanish & English)
  • DEI training certificate(s)/program completion
  • Experience utilizing identity and student development theories to support college wide and student driven initiatives
