Job Description:
Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3)
Salary: $65,000 - $68,000
The Assistant Director, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion works within the Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Sciences and will play a critical role in advancing DEI principles, values, and practices throughout Watson College. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the Assistant Director will support the overall mission and activities of the office, as well as specifically attends to programs that support the recruitment and retention and overall success of women and under-represented student populations. The Assistant Director will engage in recruitment activities to increase underrepresented student populations at Watson College (undergraduate and graduate), develop partnerships with colleges and universities, specifically minority-serving institutions (MSls), and assist the Assistant Dean with developing DEI training for faculty and staff.
Duties of the Assistant Director include:
Serve as liaison with Binghamton University undergraduate admissions office to develop recruiting activities to increase the number of qualified applicants to Watson College
Serve as liaison with Watson Graduate Recruitment and Admissions and Office of Graduate Recruitment (OGR) to support diverse recruiting activities
Develop and maintain robust partnerships with Minority Serving Institutions (MSls) (i.e., HBCUs and HSIs); assist faculty in coordinating meaningful activities and interactions
Responsible for college's participation in GEM Consortium; administer GEM-related activities (i.e., GRAD Labs, Information sessions, application advising)
Provide oversight of academic success programs (e.g., Watson College Scholars, LSAMP, etc.) and advise students
Represent Watson College at national venues (i.e., SHPE and NSBE conferences)
Supervise student assistants as needed
Develop and administer faculty/staff DEI training short courses, certificate programs, and other professional development initiatives.
Develop and administer DEI curriculum and workshops for Watson College students
Support strategic planning activities within the office and work with the director to evaluate and revise priorities
Develop and monitor key performance metrics for the office; conduct assessment and evaluation activities
Generate Watson Office for Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (WEDEI) annual report
Provide front line of support and advising to students
Tracking and monitoring the budget
Oversees day-to-day operations of WEDEI office
Supervises Watson Diversity Office staff as needed
Grant experience is a plus (seeks grant money, foundation money)

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree and three or more years of professional-related experience
Experience in cultural humility, diversity, equity, and inclusion practices
Event planning and programming experience
Commitment to program innovation, assessment, and metrics-based management
Excellent customer service skills
Excellent oral, written, presentation and communication skills with both internal and external constituents through phone, email, and video conference platforms, and in-person
Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with individuals from different nationalities, cultures, and a wide range of experience and backgrounds
Proactive, detail-oriented, and excellent organizational/time management skills to manage multiple projects and priorities
Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work both independently and within a team environment
Proficiency in analytical and computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Zoom, Canva, Google Workspace, and other common office software)
Ability to work evenings or weekends to support programming
Ability to travel nationally and internationally
Preferred:
Master's degree
2 or more years of higher education experience
Experience teaching classes and designing curriculum for courses
