REQUIRED: DVM or an equivalent degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school or equivalent training with ECFVG certification; license to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state and ability to become licensed in Massachusetts; at least five years' experience in a laboratory animal care and use program; experience collaborating with researchers; experience with institutional animal care and use committee functions and/or other expertise and interest in the regulations and guidelines that govern animal research; and ability to work effectively as part of a team.

PREFERRED: formal training in comparative medicine with diplomate status in the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) or European College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ECLAM), experience mentoring students, and experience advising on model selection and protocol development. ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR CLINICAL MEDICINE, Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM), to join ten other veterinarians who play a crucial role in delivering the highest standards of animal care, welfare, and collaborative research support. Will play a leadership role in one or more sectors of the program while remaining flexible and providing clinical care and model development support across multiple facilities and species, and become an integral part of an established training program for the next generation of comparative medicine professionals.

Opportunities for collaborative/independent research abound and will be encouraged.

DCM serves as the primary resource for the care, development, and refinement of animal models within the MIT community with a three-part mission of service, research, and teaching. It provides exceptional clinical medicine and surgical support and ensures compliance for all animal-related research activities across a large and fast-paced program involving a wide variety of research species.
