PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Assist the Director of the Child Nutrition Program in the efficient administration and operation of the Child Nutrition Department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree required.
Major in Foods and Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Service Management or Business Administration required.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of menu planning, food purchasing, and preparation of foods in food service environment
Ability to manage budget and personnel.
Ability to coordinate district function.
Ability to interpret policies, procedures, and data.
Strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
Three years' successful experience in Child Nutrition Operations required.
Capable of working well with others
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Food Service Operations
Assist in the directing and managing of the district's Child Nutrition programs.
Assist in the development of menus that meet established nutritional requirements for students.
Work cooperatively with campus principals to create lunch schedules and resolve personnel issues.
Establish and direct process of providing free and reduced lunch applications following United States Department of Agriculture and Texas Department of Agriculture guidelines for meal eligibility and reimbursement of federal funds.
Assist in developing and maintaining written department procedures for all food service operations.
Policy, Reports, and Law
Comply with federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in food service area.
Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
Prepare necessary data for processing of Child Nutrition payroll.
Budget and Inventory
Assist in the administering of Child Nutrition budget and ensure that programs are cost effective, and funds are managed prudently.
Assist in compiling budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
Assist with development of a cost-effective and efficient system of procurement of all food meeting federal procurement and Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) standards.
Assist in initiating purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies.
Assist in the approval and forward invoices and purchase orders for Child Nutrition department to accounting department.
Assist in the recommendation of disposal of obsolete equipment and replace equipment as necessary.
Personnel Management
Assist in the planning and direct inventory and stock control program for equipment and supplies.
Assist in the preparation, review, and revise job descriptions in the Child Nutrition department.
Assist in developing training options and improvement plans to ensure exemplary operation in the Child Nutrition area.
Assist in the evaluation of job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness.
Assist in the recruitment, training, and supervision of personnel and make sound recommendations about personnel placement, transfer, retention, and dismissal.
Safety
Assist to ensure that measures are in place and operating to protect food, supplies, and equipment in school cafeterias, lunchrooms, and warehouses.
Assist to maintain safety standards that conform to federal, state, and insurance regulations and develop a program of preventive safety.
Other
Attend professional growth activities to keep abreast of innovative techniques for food service operations.
Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or to others.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
To assist in planning, organizing, directing, and administering a school Child Nutrition program in the area of the Texas Department of Agriculture compliance and finance.
Check monthly commodity report and audit weekly bulletins against inventory.
Ensure the meal service reports are submitted in an accurate and timely manner so reimbursement is not jeopardized.
Responsible for lunchroom equipment, service calls and purchase orders.
Assist the Director in the areas of inventory, warehouse procedures, and of food/supplies to schools.
Oversee all facets of food production in coordination with the Director to ensure correct guidelines are implemented.
Assist the Director in maintaining the local policies required by Texas Department of Agriculture guidelines.
Assist the Director in making recommendations relative to personnel, transfer, retention, and dismissal.
Assist the Director in making visits to all campus kitchens to ensure proper safety, sanitation, accurate counting and claiming procedures are followed.
Assist the Director in providing training sessions for food services staff pertaining to all areas of the department.
Report any problems or discrepancies in relation to personnel, equipment, production, etc. following campus visits.
Assist the Director in the implementation of all programs relative to the Child Nutrition Department.
Demonstrate the awareness of district-community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs.
Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community, parent, student, and staff involvement.
Procure special food items and equipment to meet the needs of students in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and/or IDEA.
Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or to others.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
