The Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement is responsible for developing and implementing meaningful engagement programming that creates and strengthens alumni relationships and connectedness with the University. The Assistant Director provides leadership to regional alumni network and affinity group volunteers; produces electronic communications for alumni that inform and promote engagement and philanthropic opportunities; plans and facilitates engagement activities including occasional gatherings locally or regionally, before or after athletics competitions and arts performances, and other occasions as determined by leadership; and works collaboratively with campus partners to advance the strategic goals of the University.
Alumni Network and Affinity Program Oversight. Manage and implement alumni network and affinity programs. Cultivate, recruit and train alumni to serve as leaders within regional networks and affinity groups. Develop regular communication processes with volunteers, monitoring and encouraging engagement through virtual, social media and in person-experiences. Work collaboratively with Advancement and campus colleagues to support strategic activities that highlight BGSU's outstanding alumni and academic programs, expand network and affinity group experiences, and foster philanthropy. Serve as a constituent relations liaison to alumni, friends, and donors to the University; assist with questions that arise, provide information requested, and help promote a positive alumni experience to connect them to BGSU. Keep database up-to-date for alumni engagement experiences and work with campus partners to ensure that record updates are made in a timely manner for members of network and affinity organizations.
Strategic Programs and Activities. Develop and deliver meaningful, diverse in-person and virtual programming that engages alumni and friends in the life of the University to increase participation, volunteerism, giving, and interactions among alumni constituencies. Research potential venues, reserve space, coordinate with third-party vendors, create promotional and marketing materials, and oversee registration and RSVPs. Order event-related supplies and promotional items. Assist with internal initiatives including athletic events, performances, tailgates, BGSU Homecoming, Senior Week and related commencement activities, as well as BGSU One Day Ambassador programming.
Communication and Marketing. Create content for print or online invitations, emails and engagement updates to share with alumni and friends. Collaborate with Marketing and Brand Strategy and serve as liaison on projects including proofing communication materials, creating related forms, and providing contact lists. Stay current on best practices, brand standards and ADA compliance as it relates to email and digital communication. Oversee several alumni pages on the University Advancement website to keep pages up-to-date with relevant information and upcoming events. Work collaboratively with social media strategist to create events, content and strategy to boost posts.
Fundraising Support. Collaborate with Annual and Major Giving colleagues to increase financial support from alumni. Advance relationships with affinity groups and regional networks to help cultivate, solicit, and steward donors to generate philanthropic support for the University.
Metrics Management and Tracking. Create and manage assessment and metrics reporting for alumni engagement and perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Alumni Engagement. Pull reports and data to guide and support decisions regarding alumni engagement initiatives.
Board and Stewardship Support. Assist University Advancement team members with the coordination and implementation of on-campus Alumni and Foundation Board meetings, activities, and stewardship events. Assist with the reservation, set-up, and oversight of meeting and event spaces, catering, technology, and other needs.
Campus Partner Collaboration. Serve as a University Advancement point of contact with campus partners and offices to coordinate programs that connect alumni with students to assist them in developing and defining their future. Recruit, train, and communicate with volunteers regarding the programs, share engagement opportunities and information and serve as a resource to other departments.
Supervision of Student Staff. Supervise student interns/student workers in the support of alumni engagement experiences and opportunities.
