Assistant Director, Financial Reporting
This position requires an in-depth knowledge of the financial reporting process, key filings and dates, management of timelines, and effective communication with various levels of management and audit staff. The role requires monitoring, interpretation and compliance with evolving accounting guidance relevant to our business. The position often involves working on complex problems and business processes in which the analysis of situations and/or data frequently requires an in-depth evaluation of multiple, interdependent factors and professional judgment.
Lead and direct the external reporting process, including Quarterly and Annual Reports on Form 10-Q/K and ensure timely filing with the SEC
As part of the quarterly and annual filing process, this position will work collaboratively with our affiliate company (Ionis Pharmaceuticals), and adhere to their deadlines, policies and procedures, and consistency in public disclosures
Lead and manage cross-functional team for preparation of Form 10-Q/K and Information Statement, including Legal, Investor Relations and Ionis Finance
Maintain SEC calendar to inform parties of necessary deadline adherence for the following processes: financial close, BOD package, press release and 10-Q/K
Implement new accounting pronouncements and draft relevant disclosures for the 10-Q/K in accordance with US GAAP
Prepare quarterly earnings release
Monitor and ensure timely identification and compliance with evolving accounting guidance relevant to company's business, provide US GAAP interpretation and prepare technical memorandums that document issues in a clear, logical and comprehensive manner
Communicate and explain accounting issues and evolving accounting guidance to the management team
Responsible for all aspects of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance including, maintaining the company's global internal control environment to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley, implementation of new control processes, ongoing examination and evaluation of existing control processes, and review and testing by external auditors
Maintain reporting procedures to comply with internal control requirements
Manage and coordinate services performed by external service firm responsible for assessing, documenting and testing the company's control environment for compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley
Manage communications with external auditors on external financial statements, internal controls and accounting issues to ensure auditor agreement with company decisions on accounting disclosures and issues
Coordination of annual audit and quarterly review activities of external auditors
Create, implement and maintain comprehensive worldwide accounting policy documents to improve clarity and consistency
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor Degree in Accountancy or Business required
CPA, CMA or MBA required
8+ years combined in public or private accounting
Experience at a Public Company or a Public Accounting Firm required
Experience in the application of current authoritative literature
Experience interfacing with management
Experience in a commercial biotechnology company a plus
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Sound problem-solving abilities
An ability to be productive and successful in an intense work environment and work under tight deadlines

Strong interpersonal skills and a positive work ethic
Flexible to changing priorities
Strong internal control emphasis
