The Assistant Director manages employees and processes in Classification, Compensation, Recruitment and Employment. Provides leadership and mentoring to employees and resolves customer service issues. Creates and conducts training programs for the university community on areas of responsibility.

Department Human Resources FLSA: Exempt Minimum Qualifications:

Masters degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience: or a bachelors degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience. Position Qualifications: Incumbent must have extensive knowledge of Federal and State laws regulating employment, including recruitment, compensation and classification.

Must have knowledge and experience in recruitment, employment, and position classification.

Must obtain and retain current knowledge of university policies and procedures. Must have the ability to interpret laws, policies, and procedures and conduct investigations impartially.

Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive/confidential issues. Must have excellent customer service skills and mindset. Must have the ability to effect change through others and ability to mentor and develop employees and supervisors in areas of responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications Minimum three years supervisory experience and five years HR generalist experience. Experience managing recruitment, employment, and classification in a large employment setting. Experience with an HRIS (Banner) and Pageup recruiting software.

Experience creating and presenting training programs on Human Resources issues and analyzing compensation. Certification as and maintenance of PHR, SPHR, or CCP. Essential Functions / Job Duties:

  • 60% - Manages the following Human Resources programs: Recruitment, Employment, Position Classification, and Compensation. Provides leadership and mentoring to employees and resolves customer service issues. Creates and conducts training programs for the university community on areas of responsibility including recruitment policies and procedures, search committee make-up and procedures, employment interviews, maintenance of search committee records, Florida Sunshine Law pertaining to recruitment, applicant pool certification, applicable state and federal laws, veterans' preference and equal opportunity and affirmative action requirements. Writes articles for the HR Bulletin, @UWF announcements, campus awareness campaigns for procedural changes, and other University publications. Supervises, mentors, and evaluates the following employees: Human Resources Specialists who process employment verifications, review and post recruitments in the online system, review salaries for compliance with university policy, review position classifications for updates and reclassifications, attend job fairs, verify personnel action forms, review and validate staff certifications, maintain organizational charts and update employment posters. Meets with staff regularly to resolve problems and provide guidance to assure effective program operation, customer service, and goal attainment. Submits monthly employee counts by county report to CareerSource Escarosa. Serves as resource for Sunshine Recruitments, Veterans' Preference, hiring official responsibilities, search committee and advisory group guidelines. Other duties as assigned. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Responsible for Classification Audit Report Review. Makes recommendations on salary adjustments and/or pay increases. Meets with supervisors when needed to discuss compensation. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Maintains current knowledge of Federal and State laws regulating employment including recruiting, hiring, compensation, classification, affirmative action and equal opportunity. Attends webinars, meetings, and conferences on the local, state, and national level to maintain current knowledge of human resources issues and employment legislation. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Reviews Staff Certifications and makes final approval on applicant materials as provided by HR Specialists. Ensures appropriate tracking and filing of applicant materials. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Oversight of verifications of employment and filing of verifications as appropriate in employee files. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Advises departments on starting pay ranges for staff positions. Advises and provides training to the University community on the classification process and assists departments in creating and modifying job descriptions. Provides final approval on classification analyses and reclassification requests and/or provides feedback to departments. Ensures collection of documents for compliance with position classification requirements. - (Essential)
