Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director of Disability Services, The Assistant Director of Accommodations provides administrative oversight for a high volume of accommodations, including testing accommodations, note-taking services, textbooks in alternate formats, sign-language interpreting, CART, and captioning services, and other accommodations as necessary. The Assistant Director of Accommodations also supervises Disability Services staff responsible for managing and implementing accommodations. Additionally, the Assistant Director provides direct services and arranges accommodations for eligible faculty and staff with disabilities in close collaboration with Human Resources.

Responsibilities

  • Manages caseload of students with disabilities. Also manages caseload of faculty and staff with disabilities and facilitates accommodations on their behalf in collaboration with Human Resources and respective departments. Orients new students and employees to the policies and procedures regarding the provision of accommodations and services.

  • Supervises and evaluate the performance of four full-time staff and oversees work efforts for a variety of accommodations, including but not limited to assistive technology and e-text, as well as providing direct services. Participates in recruitment of vacant positions and onboarding of newly hired staff within Disability Services.

  • Overall responsibility for ensuring department's delivery and effectiveness of disability accommodations for eligible students, faculty, and staff with disabilities, including ensuring policies and procedures related to accommodations are current. Works collaboratively with HR, faculty, administrators and other campus partners to ensure that members of the University community are receiving the reasonable accommodations for which they are eligible.

  • Responsible for data collection regarding volume of accommodations. Work with the Executive Director to evaluate current processes, procedures and resources to identify current, short and long term needs and best practices as it relates to trends in disability services.

  • Reviews disability-related documentation, including psychoeducational and neuropsychological reports to determine eligibility and implement academic accommodations for students with disabilities. Consult with health care providers about documentation guidelines, as appropriate.

  • Advises students, parents, faculty, and University administrators and staff on disability issues. Presents on behalf of Disability Services at meetings, workshops and seminars. Performs outreach to students, faculty and campus partners.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree required, preferably in rehabilitation, special education, counseling, psychology, social work, higher education Master's degree strongly desired.

  • Minimum of 4-6 years of experience working with students with disabilities within higher education or a similar environment is required.

  • Experience managing/supervising accommodations and services for people with disabilities.

  • Knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and ADA Compliance, ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive University data.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, awareness and comfort with assistive technology are required for the successful candidate.

  • Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills required.

  • Must be able to work independently and collaboratively as a part of a team.

  • Must be able to follow complex procedures and work as senior member of Disability Services Team.

  • This position includes early mornings, evenings, and nights up to 40% of the year (September - May).
