The Assistant Director, Development Communications will be supporting fundraising communications and providing project management at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Reporting to the Director of Development Communications, the Assistant Director will work as part of a team in the development of high-quality and inspirational fundraising communications materials across all media.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads the planning and coordination of fundraising communication materials through multi-channels to:

o Support the communication needs of assigned major gift officers and their constituents.

o Integrate daily communications materials with the Brigham's fundraising goals and priorities.

o Raise the hospital's visibility and increase donor and prospect engagement.

  • Collaborates with editors, writers, designers, digital engagement staff, and outside vendors to facilitate the development and delivery of integrated fundraising communication materials.

  • Writes copy for appeals, web content, social media, event collateral, and other fundraising programs.

  • Develops a keen understanding of assigned fundraising unit's portfolios and deep knowledge of their medical specialty areas and how to communicate about them to different audiences.

  • Guides the development of appropriate strategies and tactics that are measured to yield learning for future projects.

  • Partners with IS and Digital Engagement to collect and share program performance metrics with fundraisers. This information is used for planning and ensuring programs deliver the greatest impact.

  • Develops, implements, and runs project schedules using Workfront for the conceptual creation and delivery of communication materials.

  • Monitors and regularly reports on project status to Development Office fundraising units, Development Communications unit leadership, and other appropriate stakeholders.

  • Secures vital approvals, makes changes, alerts stakeholders when key dates are made, and re-negotiates timelines, as needed.

  • Actively supports building the Brigham Development Office's project management expertise to the level required to successfully implement fundraising initiatives.

  • Coordinates activities closely with the entire Brigham Development Office and supports the creation of strong working relationships across the office.

  • Excels in a fast-paced environment, where the team is proactive and focused on advancing prospects towards closing gifts.

  • Maintains collaborative spirit with fundraising and service unit colleagues.

  • Leads financial and material resources to help build budgets, plan programs, and offer reporting information to meet management requirements.

  • Prepares for and coordinates meetings, sets agendas, writes meeting summaries to participants, and monitors next steps to ensure projects stay on track and meet set target dates.

  • Other initiatives as assigned by the Director of Development Communications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS Degree required.

  • 4-6 years of fundraising communications project management or significantly related experience.

  • Experience with fundraising in a hospital, an academic medical center or higher education institution strongly preferred.

  • Professional knowledge and experience with development, marketing, and communications strategies

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, as well as CRM preferred. Experience using Workfront is a plus.

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity, flexibility, and ability to handle multiple deadline-driven projects simultaneously, autonomously and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels, both orally and in writing, in communications with staff, vendors, and various hospital constituencies.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work, including proofing, adhering to standards, and meeting target dates.

  • Strong copywriting and editing skills, with adherence to grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

  • Project management experience.

  • Knowledge of the history, purpose, and mission of the hospital.

  • Ability to build strong working relationships across a complex organization.

  • Demonstrated enthusiasm, curiosity, initiative, and resilience.

  • Ability to research audience needs and own the development of products and services to support these needs.

  • Experience integrating multi-channel media, such as print, email, web, video, or mobile.

  • Ability to work independently or as a team member.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
