Summary of Duties:

The Assistant Director of Data Strategy will play a pivotal role in advancing the mission of the WSU College of Medicine: To serve Washington and beyond through collaboration and problem-solving in education, research, and health care with a focus on rural communities, Tribal Nations, and people who have been historically marginalized.

This role is responsible for overseeing the strategic management of institutional data and for leading the organization's commitment to transparent, inclusive, data-informed decision-making through rigorous process evaluation, data management, and strategic analysis.

This role will be the lead data analyst supporting the Strategic Diversity Action Plan, related policies, along with diversity, health equity, and belonging efforts outlined in the College Strategic Plan.

The Assistant Director will lead the Data Team and will report to the Director of Information Technology and Data Strategy. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Office for Diversity, Health Justice, and Belonging, the Equity Committee, and the Inclusion Matrix Workgroup for diversity, health equity, and belonging-related efforts.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and four (4) years professional experience, of which one (1) year must have been in a leadership role OR a combination of education and experience totaling eight (8) years from which comparable knowledge and abilities are acquired.

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience in a higher education or related setting requiring accountability in management reporting.

  • A combination of 5 years experience in the areas related to utilizing data collection and analytics or guiding and evaluating strategic initiatives to improve equity within an organization or community.

  • Demonstrated experience using management information systems and/or applications software.

  • Experience utilizing business intelligence and analytics software such as PowerBI, Tableau, SQL, Python, R, or related tools.

  • Outstanding computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office environment, including spreadsheet, database, word processing, and Outlook.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies, maintain a client service focus, and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize conflicting issues.

  • Demonstrated capability to exercise good judgment and analytical thought processes.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and positively in a diverse team environment and a diverse student population.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or higher in Data Science, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Educational Research, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated expertise in machine learning algorithms and AI frameworks applicable to data analysis or educational settings.

  • Experience with project planning software (e.g., Asana, Microsoft Project).

  • Experience utilizing data collection, analytics or similar activities to guide and evaluate strategic initiatives to improve equity within an organization or community.

Monthly Salary: Minimum: $5,485.73, Midpoint: $6,943.97, Maximum: $8,402.20; commensurate with qualifications and experience.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
