Job Description Summary

The Assistant Director, Communications works closely with the Director of External Affairs in executing a comprehensive strategy for carrying out the organization's communications efforts that is aligned with the strategic mission of the PCAOB.

The Assistant Director has the expertise and experience to bring complex concepts and practices to an informed audience as well as a general public audience. The Assistant Director has proven experience integrating digital communications and social media into the overall communications outreach. The Assistant Director has a proven ability to build and reinforce trusted relationships with the media.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the execution of a coordinated strategy for communicating the goals, priorities, and activities of the PCAOB to key audiences, including the media and key stakeholders.

  • Manage matters relating to media relations, and media outreach and responses, on issues of interest and concern to the Board

  • Implement a branding strategy for the PCAOB across all communication platforms, including the Board's publications, website, and digital/social media.

  • Supervise and manage requests for comment and media interviews and support the message development, speechwriting, and presentation needs of the organization's leaders.

  • Supervise other communications staff and interns, in coordination with the Director of External Affairs.

  • Maintain working relationships with key media contacts to enhance their knowledge and understanding of the organization's activities.

  • Establish and maintain standards of quality and consistency for PCAOB communications materials, website, and digital/social media.

  • Maintain standards of confidentiality with respect to all matters and documents. Exercise discretion and independent judgment on a daily basis.

  • Perform other duties and special projects as needed.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Education/Technical Expertise

  • At least 7 years of experience in public relations.

  • Proven ability to develop and execute a comprehensive communications vision and strategic plan for an organization.

  • At least 7 years of experience in working with and developing media relationships that further organizational goals as well as on-the-record experience.

  • At least 7 years of experience in effective writing and editing.

  • Collaborative and team-oriented. Experience managing an internal team as well as external consultants and achieving results.

  • Deep familiarity with both traditional and social/digital media.

  • Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in Public Relations/Communications, or Journalism.

  • Familiarity with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, regulatory reporting requirements for accounting firms and publicly traded companies. Knowledge of the regulators and congressional oversight of auditors.

Surfaces capacity, pacing, resourcing and any other issues requiring leadership attention. Ensures organizational alignment, effective stakeholder engagement and communication.

  • Demonstrated ability to think broadly and strategically, including the ability to translate long-term goals and objectives into short-term tactical plans and operational activities.

  • Effectively assesses progress by identifying and articulating clear, consistent key performance indicators.
