Job Summary

The position will administer case management services for students to address student academic and economic hardships, social adjustments, and basic needs insecurities through appropriate interventions, referrals, and follow-up services. This position will develop and implement services to assure physical and programmatic access for students with disabilities, including systematically providing learning strategies, self-advocacy training, assistive technology recommendations, orientation, and training for students.

  • Makes initial determination of eligibility for services; coordinates the documentation

procurement/review process and initial student intake, including consultations with medical professionals and students

  • Manages the assistive technology assessment, orientation, and training process

  • Develops and administers programs in self-advocacy skills, learning strategies, transition from college, and assistive technology, as needed

  • Provides ongoing individual support and services for students, including updating and implementing accommodations, academic coaching, crisis management, advocacy, and referral

  • Serves as lead case manager for care services issues by facilitating care intervention for students who identify with having an unfilled basic need such as hardships, food insecurity, and homelessness. Assist with managing a care intervention referral tracking and notes system

  • Refers students to applicable community and campus departments.

  • Collaborates with campus and community partners to increase access and utilization of public benefits, basic need support services.

  • Researches and gathers case data; follows up and conducts referrals in support of cases as needed; prepares reports according to established procedures and practices; provides reports to appropriate parties as requested.

  • Plan and organize workshops, seminars, and trainings for University departments and students to address campus-wide care, support, advocacy, and accessibility initiatives

  • Assists with accommodation provisions as needed

  • Collects and interprets data reflecting students¿ use of services and outcomes; aids in the supervision of student workers and part-time staff

  • Service on campus committees, participate in informational and professional meetings

  • Contribute to the Care team and Student Affairs division in additional duties and initiatives in an assigned capacity to support in enhancing established divisional mission, goals, and objectives

Required Qualifications

  • Three to five (3-5) years in postsecondary disability services, social work, case management, psychology, sociology, student advocacy or a related department or area

  • Experience working with students who have disabilities in an educational environment

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of laws affecting students with disabilities in higher education, including the

ADA, Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act

  • Proficiency with assistive/adaptive technology applications (software and hardware) for

students with disabilities (strongly preferred)

  • Maintains current knowledge of disability policy; reviews and assesses Disability Resource Center policy.; Develops and updates office policy and procedures in line with ADA and other disability compliance requirements

  • Remains current on policy and legal concerns in the field of disability services

  • Advanced knowledge and skills in basic needs resources, wellness services, case management, and community resourcing

  • Knowledge and experience working with students who have disabilities on self-advocacy skills and appropriate learning strategies

  • Knowledge of physical and programmatic accessibility issues, including those that impact the online/distance learning environment

  • Proficiency in technology such as Microsoft Office, Banner, D2L, Simplicity

  • Commitment to maintaining and working with sensitive and confidential information

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing

  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse populations

  • Ability to assess students¿ assistive/adaptive technology needs

  • Ability to provide orientation and training to students who use assistive/adaptive technology

  • Ability to read and interpret assessment materials and recommend reasonable accommodations

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making
