The primary responsibility of the Violence Prevention and Threat Management Program is to ensure community members are aware of how to identify and share concerns regarding students, staff and faculty and that appropriate follow up is ensured to meet the needs of the individual and community. This office facilitates the University Behavior Assessment Team and its mission is to ensure that effective intervention and management is provided to situations that pose or may pose a threat to the safety of the community. The primary goal is to work effectively with community partners to prevent violence so that the University may remain a safe environment in which to work and learn.

Essential Job Duties

The Assistant Director/Case Manager position supports the Director of Risk Assessment, Violence Prevention, and Threat Management and related University behavior threat assessment, case management, and violence prevention programs. Since its inception in 2008, the number of cases referred to the Behavior Assessment Team (BAT) continues to increase. The number of outreach and prevention initiatives has grown substantially. The growing caseload coupled with the need to expand the program's training component mandates additional staffing.

The Assistant Director/Case Manager is a full-time position with a 12-month appointment. This position will report to the Director of Risk Assessment (Risk Assessment Case Manager) under Violence Prevention & Threat Management and works integrally with partner units, including the Division of Academic and Student Affairs (DASA) and Human Resources (HR).

Primary Responsibilities:

Consulting/Advising (Assessment/Threat Management)

  • The Assistant Director/Case Manager conducts threat assessments and develops and implements case management strategies in cases involving situations involving students, employees, and non-affiliates.

  • Conduct threat assessments, threat management plans and safety plans with individuals of concern and identified victims or potential victims of violence.

  • Assist in providing comprehensive outreach and consultation services to faculty, staff and students through the use of traditional in-person presentations, social media, and other creative multi-media efforts.

  • Conduct follow-up on cases by applying the threat assessment tools and any other assessment tools as necessary.

  • Provide timely and appropriate referrals to support services within the University and coordinate intervention plans through the use of and collaboration with various University and off-campus resources.

Knowledge - Professional/Case Management

  • Assist in the appropriate and ethical assessment of data collected by and about individuals of concern in an effort to develop and maintain best practices.

  • Assist in managing a case management database by ensuring all correspondence, notes, and action items are accurately documented in a timely manner.

  • Monitor and track individual cases and progress to ensure compliance with recommendations, on-going assessment and to address new or emerging concerns as they arise.

Communication and Teamwork

  • Partner with external community agencies and law enforcement, as appropriate.

  • Partner with the Office of General Counsel, the Counseling Center, Employee Relations, Student Conduct, University Police and other key stakeholders to ensure comprehensive case management.

  • Collaborate as part of the University's NCSU Cares Team and the University's BAT.

Outreach and Prevention

  • Assist in the development of prevention and outreach campaigns related to such issues as workplace violence prevention, suicide prevention, targeted violence, and other related topics.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Require post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor's degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Experience in conducting suicide, violence risk assessments and/or threat assessments and developing management strategies.

  • Experience conducting training on topics such as suicide prevention, workplace violence prevention, domestic violence awareness, conflict management, classroom behavior management and dealing with disruptive behavior.

  • Case management experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems and use sound judgment and reasoning to make crucial decisions autonomously.

  • Ability to establish collaborative relationships with campus and community partners.

  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a cohesive multidisciplinary team-oriented environment.

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office, Google Suite and SPSS.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Data and records management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in social work, mental health, psychology, counselor education or

other relevant degree

  • Certified Threat Manager

  • Experience in Digital Threat Assessment

  • Clinical experience

  • Relevant licensure, such as LSW, LCSW, or LPC

  • Experience working in a higher education setting

  • Experience in working with interpersonal violence (for example, through violence

risk assessment, investigations, or victim advocacy)

  • Experience in conducting behavior threat assessment and threat management

  • Experience in working in multi-disciplinary teams

  • Experience working with high risk cases

  • Experience with using structured professional judgement tools.

  • Experience with using a case management database system.

  • Experience partnering with Human Resource related issues.

Required License(s) or Certification(s)

  • Valid Drivers license required.
  • A valid North Carolina driver's within 60 days of start date.
