Position Summary

The Assistant Director, Career Development for MBA Career Coaching is an integral member of the Center for Career Engagement team and serves as an advisor for full-time MBA students and recent alumni within an assigned community (e.g., finance and entrepreneurial students and student organizations) within the Olin Business School. This posting is for multiple hires.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as career coach and subject matter expert to approximately 150 full-time MBA students and recent alumni.

  • Build and develop relationships with students to (a) understand their career needs and (b) steward them through the internship and job search process.

  • Determine additional resources required for MBA candidates and guide them to other resources, within the Center for Career Engagement and beyond, to prepare them for technical aspects of interviews (industry directors, specialist coaches, platform leads, etc.).

  • Develop tailored action plans and ongoing feedback to steward each student through the career development process, ensuring student readiness in the areas of self-assessment, document preparation, search strategies, interviewing, and negotiating, and career management.

  • Partner with academic advisors around career-related issues that may affect students' academic journeys.

  • Facilitate career development content for use in student programs, including but not limited to activity design, assignment evaluation and partnering with faculty and academic advisors to deliver content.

  • Work with academic leadership and graduate programs staff to communicate career issues among the students that should inform ongoing reviews and updates of the program curriculum.

  • Inform industry directors /specialized coaches of unique or technical needs and challenges of assigned students advising and leadership initiatives.

  • General academic, program, and university support including but not limited to assisting with program initiatives, limited presentations and other university wide initiatives.

  • May provide leadership and supervision of peer coaches.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as necessary.

  • Willingness to travel domestically.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in higher education, business, or in a related field.

  • Experience providing career advising to professionals.

  • Experience of working with students groups/related organizations.

  • Commitment to designing and delivering excellent career development and advising services.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, strong relationship building skills.

  • Ability to work in a matrix organization across/within groups.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree plus three years of experience in higher education or related role.
  • A graduate degree may be required depending upon school and/or student's degree.

Salary Range

$52,000.00 - $88,800.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
