Position Details

Information Technology and Security at The University of Tampa has a position available for an Assistant Director, AV Classroom Technology and Event Support. This role will be responsible for ensuring the seamless operation of audio-visual equipment in classrooms, lecture halls, and event spaces across our campus. The position will assist and manage the design, development, maintenance, and support for the university's AV needs for special events. Additionally, the position is responsible for collaborating with all university academic areas, ensuring digital systems' functionality to enhance classroom teaching, and learning leading to substantial cost savings by efficiently managing AV equipment, reducing downtime, and optimizing resource allocation. By offering seamless AV support for events and classroom activities, the university can avoid costly disruptions and improve overall operational efficiency.

The Assistant Director, AV Classroom Technology and Event support will report to the Director, IT Operations, Information Technology and Security, and work closely with the Audio-Visual Architect as well as the Faculty, making AV systems more user-friendly and efficient for professors to engage with students.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Determine and document audio-visual project requirements.

  • Assist with designing, compiling, and presenting pricing proposals with strong and compelling content for complete and accurate systems.

  • Maintain and repair audio-visual equipment in classrooms, lecture halls, and event spaces.

  • Monitor and update inventory of AV equipment, ensuring proper functionality.

  • Oversee equipment upgrades and procurement as necessary.

  • Ability to test integrated systems and train on use; develop and write operation manuals as needed.

  • Develop and maintain long-term relationships with architects, consulting engineers, specification writers, building owners, and contractors.

  • Obtain and maintain vendor and AV industry-standard certifications.

  • Provide support services for high-profile in-person or hybrid events, including senior staff presentations and meetings, commencement activities, and other special events requiring audio-visual support.

  • Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with other cultures and backgrounds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science preferred, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

  • 5+ years of engineering, designing, and estimating technical projects with a proven track record of successful completion.

  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art audio, video, control systems, and equipment.

  • Creative problem-solving skills and superior analytical skills.

  • Experience training for staff and faculty on the use of instructional technology tools.

  • Strong organizational skills to juggle multiple tasks within the constraints of timelines and budgets with business acumen.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills (e.g., technical documentation, presentations, etc.).

  • Knowledge of or the ability to learn quickly The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office.

  • Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.

Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Summer: Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Evenings and weekends as required.
