Summary The position will play a key supporting role within the Army West Point Athletic Association Inc.’s (“AWPAA”) Athletic Communications unit. This position will be responsible for playing a major role in the social media strategy implemented on AWPAA athletic program accounts, and serving as the primary athletics communications contact for several Army West Point athletic programs, based on experience.

Duties will heavily include but are not limited to confidently running and managing multiple social platforms, creating unique graphics, and shooting photography. Scope of Impact The Assistant Director’s scope of impact will be moderate due to the impact this position has on public relations and messaging that promotes USMA, the West Point Army Garrison, the United States Army and its fans and constituents. This position will interface and collaborate with members of the AWPAA External Operations unit and AWPAA coaches and cadet-athletes.

Level of Decision-Making The level of decision-making for this position is moderate. This position will work under the direction of the Assistant AD, Athletics Communications, with major collaboration from the Assistant AD, Digital & Social Strategies, to generate multiple forms of content for social media. This position will be able to directly interface with cadet-athletes, coaches, sports administrators, and other external team members to determine best practices and procedures for creating content.

Success Factors Success in this position will be evaluated by the Supervisor on the employee’s performance in a variety of areas, including but not limited to: Commitment to AWPAA Mission, Vision and Values; and supporting the AWPAA Strategic Plan and Priority Results. Essential Duties and Responsibilities 40% Social Media Help with the coordination and implementation of the department’s social media plan following AWPAA’s social plan that highlights and emphasizes its strategic plan.

Assist in handling the main Army West Point Athletics social media accounts, while overseeing accounts of designated teams, including pregame in-game and postgame. Keep up with current social media trends and use creativity to execute new ideas. Work with ACOMM and video staff on creating content for social accounts. 30% Graphic Design and Photography Work in conjunction with the Assistant Athletics Director, Athletics Communications, and the Assistant Athletics Director, Digital & Social Strategies on graphics concepts needed to support the department.

Take photos of select teams’ media days and action photos of select sporting competitions. 25% Sports Information and Public Relations Serve as the primary communications contact for designated sports. Write and research notes, recaps, and feature stories. Knowledge of stat programs and updating statistics.

Travel to select away events. Help provide oversight and direction to coaches, staff, and cadet-athletes on United States Military Academy (“USMA”) Public Affairs Office policies, public relations, and written materials, and assist them in disseminating appropriate information. Create publications (e.g., game programs, flip cards, media guides, etc.). 5% Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities This position will not have any supervisory responsibilities. Work Conditions & Physical Requirements The selected individual in this position must be able to: Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 50% of the time.

Occasionally moves communications and office equipment weighing up to 50 pounds across campus for various events. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Constantly operates a computer, printer, and phone.

The person in this position frequently with cadets who have inquiries about their given sport and be able to exchange accurate information with these cadets. Occasionally works in outdoor weather conditions. Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Travel 10-20% - Travel will be based on the nature of the assigned teams’ schedules (e.g., Championship tournament, service academy games, etc.) and on the need for assistance for home events. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in communications, sports management, business, marketing, or related field; or, alternatively, one-to-two years of applicable related experience.

Experience and proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite with a concentration on Photoshop and InDesign.

Strong knowledge of managing social media platforms. Strong photography skillset. Preferred Qualifications Minimum of one to two years of sports communications or relevant experience at the collegiate or professional level.

Experience with Stat Crew/NCAA Genius stat systems. Additional Eligibility Requirements Must be eligible to work in the United States of America, without sponsorship. Must be eligible to work on a military installation, including a willingness to submit to a background screen.

Must possess a valid driver’s license. Pay Range $40,000 - $45,000 per year. This job posting contains a pay range, which represents the range of salaries that AWPAA believes, in good faith, at the time of this posting that it might be willing to pay for the posted position.

AWPAA expects to hire for this position near the middle of the range. Only in truly rare and exceptional circumstances, where an external candidate has experience, credentials or expertise that far exceed those required or expected for the position, would AWPAA consider paying a salary or rate near the higher end of the range.
