Assistant Director, Alumni Engagement

Job Summary:

The Assistant Director, Alumni Engagement is responsible for affinity alumni engagement, as part of Muhlenberg's high-performing, donor-centered advancement team. This individual is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships and programs to promote alumni engagement, participation and philanthropy. The position responsibilities require creativity and a passion for engaging with Muhlenberg alumni across the spectrum. A valuable member of the alumni affairs team, this individual will have primary responsibility to create and manage building a robust affinity based program that connects our alumni and the College through non-class based programming specific to their special interest groups. The ultimate goal of this work is to develop alumni connections with the College, discover and identify alumni interest level in being more deeply engaged, and ultimately to introduce those alumni to development gift officers.

Schedule & Benefits: This is a full-time, year-round position with the potential for partial remote work. Characteristic Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Create a strategic affinity based program that focuses on increased engagement to the College through a robust network of volunteers capable of increasing connections to the College.

  • Provide guidance and logistical support to alumni groups and volunteers who may be celebrating milestones or programming using resources available through the Alumni Affairs office. Some events may be off campus or require night or weekend hours.

  • Serve as primary contact for event registration builds through our current platform, Anthology Encompass. Registrations include Alumni Affairs, Advancement. Athletics and campus partner events.

  • Manage attendance and participant feedback/evaluation of campus alumni events and activities.

  • Work with campus partners, vendors and volunteers on special events and programs, including but not limited to Alumni Weekend, THAW, An Evening of Distinction and Candlelight Carols.

  • In close partnership with advancement communications, aid in executing an alumni communications plan which uses cutting edge technology to increase alumni awareness about programs, events and resources available to them as Muhlenberg graduates.

  • Participate in alumni weekend with direct responsibilities for designated reunion class years. In partnership with assigned staff from The Muhlenberg Fund, recruit and work with members of these classes serving as reunion committee volunteers to set and meet attendance and fundraising goals.

  • Attend alumni events and meetings, many of which include evening and weekend work. Represent advancement and the College at events on and off campus.

  • Participate in alumni engagement committee meetings of the Alumni Board by attending meetings and participating in committee initiatives.

  • Participate in and provide support for department-wide fundraising efforts including Mulementum, phone-a-thon, class reunion fundraising, etc.

  • May perform other duties as assigned.

While no one person may possess all the qualifications listed below, the ideal candidate will have many of the following professional experiences and characteristics:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Muhlenberg alumnus/alumna preferred (but not required).

  • Past experience in public relations, event planning, marketing or fundraising is preferred.

  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Muhlenberg and its student and alumni body.

  • Strong leadership and creativity required, as well as exceptional organizational, writing and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team player; capable of working independently and proactively while initiating/maintaining frequent communication with the Director is essential.

  • Ability to professionally represent the College in support of Advancement goals and maintain the highest degree of confidentiality.

  • In partnership with Muhlenberg College's Office of Communications & Marketing, work collaboratively to promote positive alumni social media experience (familiarity with LinkedIn, Instagram, X/Twitter, etc., as well as knowledge of new and emerging technologies and online communication trends).

  • Familiarity with event registration platforms and CRM database preferred.

  • Occasional overnight travel, as well as frequent weekend and evening work, is expected.

  • An active commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

  • Successful completion of background checks, including but not limited to education, credit, criminal background, and driving record.
