Job Summary / Basic Function

TITLE: Assistant Football Defensive Coach

REPORTS TO: HEAD FOOTBALL COACH

FUNCTION: The Assistant Coach, in collaboration with the Head Coach, or his/her designee, the assistant coaches and the support staff is responsible for the administration of the collegiate football program in a way that reflects the athletics' department program goals. The assistant coach is responsible for creating an environment that is supportive of individual differences and maximizes the educational and athletic development of the student athletics.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.TEACHING AND TRAINING

  • Assists in planning and implementing the in-season and off-season training schedule for student athletes and staff.

  • Assists in formulating and implementing daily practice plans that demonstrate a high amount of time on task, that are progressive, are congruent with team and individual ability, and are consistent with sound conditioning principles.

  • Assists in instructing student athletes in the skills and strategies necessary to maximize performance.

  • Assists in establishing general expectations for participation

  • Assists in appropriately discipline student athletes when expectations are not met, or rules are broken.

  • Other Duties as assigned to meet program goals of the Football program

2.COUNSELING /ADVISING STUDENT ATHLETES

  • Assists in reinforcing academic success as a priority and work with appropriate school officials to monitor academic progress.

  • Respond positively to individual athletes' issues and concerns and help seek effective solutions.

  • Maintain appropriate coach-athletes relationships

  • Demonstrate and instill in players a respect for and courtesy toward opposing players, coaches and officials.

3.GENERAL PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

  • Assists in conducting the program with the scope and policies established

by the institution and the athletics department.

  • Helps establish positive and effective communication with the athletic director and all support staff.

  • Be knowledgeable about and appropriately implement governing body rules.

  • Direct, supervise and evaluate all assistant coaching activities with regard to instruction, scouting, recruiting, and other identified tasks.

  • Responsible for scheduling of events in consultation with athletic director.

4.FUNDRAISING MANAGEMENT

  • Assists Head Coach with all fundraising efforts for the program.

  • Assist Head Coach to promote and run all summer camps.

5.PUBLIC RELATIONS

  • Helps to maintain an exemplary standard of conduct which reflects the highest level of professionalism and good judgment on and off the field.

  • Extend your involvement outside the athletic department by speaking to campus or community groups and by participating in campus and community events.

  • Helps to maintain positive public relations with media, parents, alumni, officials, volunteers, fans, competitors, and any other constituent group.

6.RECRUITING

  • Articulate and implement a plan that is consistent with the college's mission.

  • Is knowledgeable about local, state and NCAA regulations regarding recruiting.

  • Helps to cultivate a recruiting network that helps identify prospects that match the academic and athletic profile of the institution.

7.PRIMARY FOOTBALL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in planning daily defensive practices

  • Evaluates personnel for defense.

Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Bachelor's Degree Required

Master Degree Preferred

Minimum of Education / TrainingRequired Education Summary

Bachelor's degree required

At least 2 years of coaching experience at Collegiate level.

Organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with NCAA rules and regulations

Experience in training and developing football Athletics
