Basic Function and Responsibility:

Reporting directly to the dean of the Snyder School of Cinema & Media Arts, the Assistant Dean is responsible for the overall administration of the CMA school for both undergraduate and any future graduate programs. As part of the CMA team, this leadership position is active in the short- and long-term development of the CMA program and a key partner with the dean in the building of the Snyder School's future, including its growth and status as one of the leading film schools in the world. In addition to developing innovative growth plans, this role is responsible for managing the day to day execution of Snyder School's operations in an effort to achieve CMA's goals and related university objectives.

Essential Duties:

Program Innovation

Align with the dean's CMA Vision Document to activate future build-out plans as identified.

Provide overall administrative leadership for existing and new programs and proposals, including degrees, concentrations, BA, BS, MA, and MFA programs, proposed in-person and online programs, and any future development of CMA programs. Ensure all reports and proposals are completed within established timelines and budgetary parameters.

Curriculum Management and Accreditation

Supervise the Academic Office Manager in the implementation of curriculum, committee meetings, course scheduling, paperwork submissions, and teaching assignments.

Oversee the CMA catalog to ensure courses are always up to date, properly named and effectively described.

Together with the department chair, manage and complete program and course outcomes (i.e. PLOs), annual assessments, accreditation, and university requirements, etc. within timeline requirements.

Faculty Engagement

Manage the full time and adjunct faculty (i.e. "faculty") hiring processes including identifying needs, posting and advertising open positions, leading search committees, seeking candidates, receiving/distributing applications, and navigating through required hiring workflows as outlined by Office of the Provost and Human Resources. Work within budget requirements.

With the department chair, manage faculty needs, scheduling, as well as supervise performance. Provide support and/or training as needed. Evaluate and provide feedback to faculty on job performance, ensuring alignment to goals.

Staff Leadership

Supervise the functions and activities of the CMA administrative team, ensuring staff members are aligned to goals, working in concert with one another and effectiveness is maximized.

Lead by creating a positive, healthy culture within CMA.

Evaluate team workflow and performance, including but not limited to regular assessment discussions in addition to annual reviews.

Lead innovation teams to build toward future enrollment and program goals.

Assess future staff needs to keep up with enrollment growth.

Student Services

Direct the provision of student services such as academic advising, registration processes and student clubs/organizations, with the assistance of the Academic Office Manager.

Supervise the Internship Manager to help facilitate relationships with corporate contacts for internships and student career placement.

Marketing and Events

Supervise the Manager of Strategic Marketing and Events in the development and implementation of strategic plans including but not limited to recruiting events, career seminars, screenings, alumni events, guest speakers, CMA's social media accounts, and summer programs.

Interface with the university's marketing and press teams on behalf of CMA for school branding, advertising and communication efforts.

Budget and Scholarship Administration

Manage CMA's annual and long-term budgets.

Forecast revenue for related programs.

Supervise CMA's scholarship program through the development of program procedures and literature, applications and renewals, and partnering with Financial Aid to monitor aid disbursements.

Non-Essential Duties:

Participate in CMA events including seminars, chapel services, team outings, summer film camps, prospective student and donor events, and other community building activities.

Together with the dean, develop and implement the Dean's Council task force by establishing relationships with key industry leaders who in turn advise CMA, mentor students, and are a resource for various department initiatives.

Support the alumni program in conjunction with the CMA Internship Manager, Biola's Alumni Relations department and the independent CMA alumni 558 Network.

Provide additional support as needed in support of departmental initiatives and new opportunities.

Proficient computer skills.

May require lifting, bending, or standing for long periods of time.

Education:

  • A minimum of five years of broad administrative experience, preferably in a collegiate setting. Terminal degree is preferred.
