Description

Position Overview:

Linfield University is seeking an experienced and passionate Assistant Dean of Students/Director of Student Life to oversee and enhance the student experience at our Portland campus. This role involves supervising all Student Life programs and services, advocating for BSN and MSN students, and collaborating with various campus departments to ensure a supportive and enriching environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervision and Coordination: Lead and manage all student affairs functions and personnel on the Portland campus, in collaboration with the Vice President for Student Affairs in McMinnville.

  • Staff Evaluation: Oversee and assess the performance of the Assistant Director of Student Life & DEI.

  • Student Advocacy: Act as a strong advocate for approximately 400 BSN and MSN students, ensuring their needs and concerns are addressed.

  • Quality Assurance: Work with the Director of Operations to maintain the highest quality of student life in Building 5.

  • Collaboration: Partner with the Dean of Nursing to enhance the student experience and address student needs.

  • Health and Wellness Coordination: Liaise with the McMinnville Campus Director of Student Health, Wellness, and Counseling to manage student health issues.

  • Budget Management: Prepare, administer, and monitor the annual budget for Student Life. Oversee the budget and expenditures for 18 student clubs and ASLU-PC, managing a budget of approximately $130,000.

  • Leadership and Support: Provide leadership and support for student events, government, and clubs. Organize retreats/trainings and manage election processes for ASLU-PC officers.

  • Community Engagement: Promote community engagement and service opportunities for nursing students in collaboration with ASLU-PC Officers.

  • Student Care Team Leadership: Lead the Student Care Team, providing support and resources to students in need.

  • Event Coordination: Serve as a liaison for McMinnville Campus staff organizing events for Portland Campus students.

  • Committee Participation: Serve on committees such as the Student Policy and Progression Committee and Faculty Search Committee.

  • Policy Implementation: Develop and implement college policies related to student life and academic issues. Handle student disciplinary issues and refer cases to the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities as needed.

  • Medical Leave Support: Assist students with Medical Leave of Absences in coordination with the Registrar's Office, Director of Clinical Education, and Director of Student Health, Wellness, and Counseling.

  • Academic Support: Support Pre-Nursing students and facilitate their transition to the School of Nursing in collaboration with the Academic Advising Office at the McMinnville Campus.

  • Representation: Represent Portland Campus non-academic student issues to Linfield University administration and departments.

  • Social Media and Website Management: Coordinate social media efforts and manage the central website for student life functions on the Portland Campus.

  • Housing Resources: Manage off-campus housing resources.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree (or in progress) in college student personnel administration, counseling, or a related discipline.

  • Five years of relevant experience, or equivalent education and experience demonstrating:

  • Knowledge of laws and policies related to student affairs.

  • Experience working with non-traditional students.

  • Experience organizing student programming.

  • Proven track record in student problem resolution and crisis management.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and database software.

  • Previous experience with nursing or medical students is desirable.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work performed in an office environment.

  • Constant sitting, hearing, talking, seeing, and repetitive hand movements.

  • Occasional walking, climbing stairs, stooping, bending, standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying up to 20 pounds.

  • High attention to detail and accuracy.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Master's degree in college student personnel administration or a related discipline and five years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating:

  • Knowledge of laws and policies covering student affairs

  • Proficiency in use of word processing, spreadsheets and data base software.

  • Experience working with non-traditional students.

  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.

  • Proven track record in student problem resolution and crisis management.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize work assignments.
