Title: Assistant Dean of Student Support Services

Unit: Non-Unit Professional (NUP)

Department: Student Affairs, Student Support Services

Reports to: Dean of Students

General Summary: Under the direction of the Dean of Students, the Assistant Dean of Student Support Services is responsible for the administrative oversight of all services and programs related to student support, the Wellness Resource Center, which includes mental health services and essential student needs. In addition to the following: Student Access and Support Services (SASS) and two grants: TRIO Program for Student Achievement, RISE Scholars Program. The Assistant Dean of Student Support Services also serves as the Senior Student Affairs Officer's designee and/or representative on matters pertaining to student-centered emergencies; students experiencing mental health crises and interventions involving students in need of supports.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative oversight for services provided by the Wellness Resource Center: educational events/programing highlighting the 8 components of wellness, mental health support services and referrals for counseling; food pantry and emergency grant support.

  • Provide administrative oversight for all programs and services related to students with disabilities; to include accommodations and support services to students with documented disabilities.

  • Provide administrative oversight for the operations of collegiate TRIO Program for Student Achievement, to ensure compliance with grant requirements and program service delivery and documentation.

  • Provide administrative oversight to RISE Scholars Program grant management and Program Coordinator.

  • Co-Chairs the Student Assessment and Intervention Team (SAIT) meetings, communication processes and follow-up.

  • Manage the request process for students seeking withdrawals due to extenuating medical circumstances. Prepare and manage departmental budget, inclusive of any grant-funded work.

  • Oversee new initiatives relative to student support and inclusive programming.

  • Serves as the Senior Student Affairs Officer's designee in implementing the Student Suicide Prevention Protocol.

  • Coordinate Program Review process and oversee ongoing program evaluation and refinement for all programs within Essential Student Support Services

  • Serve as the Senior Student Affairs Officer's designee and /or Administrator on duty when they are not available.

  • Oversee hiring, interviewing, orientation/training, supervision, and evaluation of department staff.

  • Actively collaborate with academic deans, program coordinators, faculty, student affairs admissions and enrollment management staff.

  • Supervise administrative assistant in their work for the departments and other part-time staff as needed.

  • Provide consultation services to faculty and staff to ensure that the college provides services and resources to empower each student to attain his/her highest level of academic success and learning independence.

  • Provides consultation, support, and advice to faculty on student support services, classroom management techniques, emergency, and safety protocols as well as disability-related issues including accommodations, strategies, techniques, and interventions.

In collaboration with the Dean of Students the Assistant Dean of Student Support will:

  • Develop and coordinate all student direct-care functions provided by the department.

  • Oversee all communication and contracts with after-hours emergency agencies.

  • Serve as after-hours contact for mental health crisis on rotation.

  • Co-Chair the Student Assessment Intervention Team (SAIT)

  • Provides leadership for the implementation of counseling files via technology including establishing best practices complying fully with HIPPA and FERPA

  • Create strong outreach to faculty and staff to coordinate support for students in need of services.

  • Oversee implementation of psycho educational programs on mental health, wellness, AOD and HIV

  • Oversee the development and implementation of an internship training program for licensure-track graduate students in counseling.

  • Evaluate the efficacy of department services and make changes as needed to respond to student needs.

  • May assist with direct-care, mental health counseling, as needed.

Student Access and Support Services, RISE Scholars, TRIO PSA:

  • In collaboration with the Dean of Students, ensures compliance with the ADA and 504 legislations, create, and implement policies to protect civil rights and enhance the learning for students with disabilities.

  • Provide administrative oversight and direction to all operations of Disability Support Services and staff that review disability documentation and provide direct services to students; determine and advise on reasonable accommodations, while ensuring that college academic standards are maintained.

  • Represent the department at local and national venues, conferences, and events.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with appropriate college personnel to implement initiatives to create a welcoming, equitable and inclusive campus environment that supports student learning and growth.

  • Demonstrated competence in educational program planning and delivery.

  • Participate in division staff meetings and professional organizations as appropriate to the job, to include, but not be limited to: Participate in professional organizations and/or College committees.

  • Service as governance, ad hoc, College standing committees, system-wide task forces of committees, or labor management committees.

  • Participate in College, division, department, or other related college meetings and/or activities as the President of the College or her designee may deem appropriate.

  • Participate in the improvement and development of academic programs and resources, including recruitment, completion, and retention efforts.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or related program and/or equivalent administrative experience in higher education

  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in an educational setting

  • A minimum of three years of experience supervising professional staff

  • Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, veterans, and individuals with different academic preparation levels and varying physical and learning abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the field of human services and including therapeutic or mental health services

  • Demonstrated competence providing leadership and supervision of clinical staff

  • Demonstrated understanding of disability services, inclusive of laws and compliance.

  • Demonstrated competence in dealing with complex student issues

  • Demonstrated leadership, planning, management, organizational, problem-solving and supervisory skills

  • Financial management skills; experience in preparing and monitoring budget

  • Commitment to the mission of the college with demonstrated understanding of the goals of the college

  • Ability to think strategically and to develop relevant and realistic plans, programs and goals for the department, division and college

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with college deans, faculty and staff to design and implement services

  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and written and oral communications skills and ability to develop positive relationships with faculty and staff

  • Bilingual skills a plus

Location: Lowell campus with occasional travel to Bedford as needed

Hours: 37.5 of hours per week, schedule to be determined upon hire. This position will be eligible for a maximum of two days of telework in accordance with the College's telework policy.
