Overview
Touro University Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center seeks to hire a full-time Assistant Dean for Academic Excellence and Bar Success. The position is an administrative appointment and may include faculty rank, depending upon experience. This administrator must have prior experience in legal education and with academic success and bar readiness programs. The administrator's primary responsibilities will be to: (1) oversee the operations of the law school's Academic Excellence and Bar Success Department; (2) to design and implement programs for students' academic success in law school and (3) to design and implement strategies and programs for graduating students' success on the bar exam. The Assistant Dean will also teach bar readiness courses as needed. The Assistant Dean will serve as an advisor to the Dean and the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in matters relating to student success in law school and on the bar exam.
Responsibilities
Direct and manage the Academic Excellence and Bar Success Department
Assistant Directors of Academic Excellence and Bar Success
Adjuncts as needed
Work with the Dean, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Curriculum Committee and faculty to evaluate curricular and academic programs and requirements to improve bar passage
Develop strategies and design, create and implement programs for students' academic success in law school and passing the bar examination
Work with the Assistant Dean of Student Services and Records to design and implement the academic support programs for orientation for new law students
Work with the Director of Assessments to review bar passage statistics and develop strategies for improving bar passage rate
Create teaching and assessment materials for the Academic Excellence and Bar Success Program and doctrinal faculty.
Direct and implement a bar mentoring program for February and July bar takers
Meet one-on-one with students at-risk for bar passage ; be available to all candidates
Provide support and academic advice and counseling to students
Collaborate with BarBri to develop, implement and teach bar prep courses
Keep faculty advised of changes in the bar exam and how they affect the curriculum
Oversee 1L skills workshops
Oversee one-on-one tutorials to students seeking academic assistance
Assist faculty with using released bar exam questions to create law school assessments to accommodate a range of teaching objectives
Remain current and knowledgeable about changes to the bar exam, its content, grading and administration, and monitor bar review courses and programs available to students
Teach bar readiness programs, and substantive courses, depending on the needs of the Law Center
Represent the Law Center at and participate in outside conferences and other events organized for and/or by academic support professionals
Participate in committees as assigned by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs
Qualifications
Education/ Experience
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school and bar admission
Experience in academic success programs at the law school level
Experience in program planning, creating strategies and implementation
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities
Effective and professional written and oral communication skills
Familiarity with bar-tested subjects and bar exam format
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point, & Outlook

USD $154,050.00/Yr.
Minimum Salary
USD $123,240.00/Yr.
