Job Description:

SUMMARY

Plans, directs and oversees the objectives of the Counseling and Student Accessibility Services departments at their respective campus. Provides leadership in the development and oversight of Counseling priorities, budget management and participates in college-wide academic strategic planning initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Directs all aspects and operations of the Counseling and Student Accessibility Services departments and serves as the budget unit leader

  • Provides leadership in the development and implementation of Counseling departmental initiatives

  • Fosters collaboration among disciplines, works with faculty, staff and administrator's college-wide to achieve a shared vision for the College's counseling offices

  • Supervises, develops and manages the performance of a large team of faculty and staff

  • Provides leadership for faculty and staff development

  • Analyzes and responds to related faculty and staff needs

  • Provides leadership and guidance for faculty, staff, program managers, deans, and campus presidents pertaining to Counseling business matters

  • Serves as a liaison between the department and the Dean's Council

  • Researches and works with leadership in identifying and cultivating prospective related initiatives

  • Maintains and continuously develops internal and external partnerships in support and advancement of Counseling department

  • Monitors and assures quality in the compliance of College policies with the associated governing bodies

  • Oversees the development, maintenance, and administration of the College's partnership agreements with various agencies and university partners

  • Performs other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

  • Master's degree

  • Significant related experience may substitute for education

  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in student personnel services or higher education administration

  • Demonstrated related general experience including:

  • Demonstrated executive experience planning, assigning, scheduling, supervising and ensuring the quality of the work of others

  • Demonstrated experience forecasting, planning, maintaining, preparing, and monitoring a large business area's budget

  • Demonstrated experience effectively making decisions that have significant, broad implications on the management and operations of a division (or equivalent business area)

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in a role requiring dynamic and abstract problem-solving methods in adaptive situations

  • Demonstrated experience with accommodations provided under the American with Disabilities Act

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of student support theories, concepts, and practices with the ability to use in complex, difficult, and/or unexpected situations as it pertains to the departmental focus

  • Ability to effectively complete work assignments independently

  • Demonstrated advanced project management skills

  • Demonstrated intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Ability to facilitate work teams comprised of internal and external stakeholders

  • Ability to work accurately with a strong attention to detail

  • Possess strong time management skills and ability to work effectively under the stress of timelines

  • Ability to support crisis management at the campus and/or division level

  • Ability to facilitate top-level collaboration while managing sensitive issues

  • Ability to collaborate, negotiate and resolve conflicts on major projects

  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance work flow and quality

  • Possess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to collaborate with both internal and external regulatory agencies

  • Possess sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population

PERFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Guidance, Higher Education Administration, or closely related field

  • Demonstrated Counseling or academic program advising experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

  • Possess knowledge/familiarity with the use of student information and/or scheduling systems

  • The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment;

  • The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated;

However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc.;

  • Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite
