The Assistant Controller will play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of our financial operations. Reporting to the Controller, this individual will assist in overseeing accounting functions, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and supporting financial reporting and analysis. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, preferably within the biotech or life sciences sector, and possess excellent analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

  • Support the Controller in the preparation of reports for the Board of Directors and other stakeholders.

  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records and timely reporting.

  • Oversee daily accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities.

  • Assist with the management of payroll processes and related compliance.

  • Ensure proper documentation and reconciliation of all accounts.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of internal controls and accounting policies.

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and relevant regulatory requirements.

  • Support external and internal audit processes, including preparation of audit schedules and responses to auditor inquiries.

  • Conduct financial analysis to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning.

  • Analyze variances between budgeted and actual financial performance and provide insights and recommendations.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy in accounting operations.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline financial processes and systems.

  • Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff and assist with training and development.

  • Foster a collaborative and positive team environment.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role. Experience in the biotech or life sciences industry is highly desirable.

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including GAAP.

  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems (NetSuite preferred).

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with both financial and non-financial stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

$178,000 - $235,000 a year

The salary range for candidates residing in California for this position is $178,000 to $235,000 annually. This salary range is an estimate of what we reasonably expect to pay for this posted position, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation geographic location, individual education, experience, tenure, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. This position is also eligible for bonus, benefits, and participation in Company's stock option plan.
