Co-operative Education Coordinators work with students, academic faculty members and employers to promote the integration of experiential learning with the liberal learning and discipline-based components of both undergraduate and graduate students education. The coordinator will also work with employers to develop jobs commensurate with student interests and abilities.
This is a full-time, non-tenure track co-op faculty position working with students majoring in the social sciences in the College of Social Science and Humanities in the specific discipline of political science as well as masters students seeking coop experiences. The coordinator is expected to: develop partnerships with employers by working with executive, supervisory and human resources contacts; develop new and maintain ongoing co-op positions and make appropriate referrals to other co-op coordinators with regard to co-op positions; maintain understanding of industry/field, employers, and positions; communicate co-op activity by maintaining accurate records in the co-op database.
The coordinator will prepare students for the co-op assignment through teaching a co-op prep class and in individual meetings, maintain contact with students during their co-op assignment to maintain connection with the University, and engage in reflection activities with students upon return to the University to reflect upon their co-op experience, enhance it and integrate it with their academic work. The coordinator also collaborates with College academic faculty, administration and other co-op coordinators to help students integrate their co-op and academic education, and share knowledge of industry with academic faculty members to integrate experiential learning with curriculum-based learning. Coordinators work with other co-op coordinators to create a deep reservoir of quality co-op experiences by performing annual reviews of jobs, leveling all co-op positions and conducting annual site visits and job development with employers, with an emphasis on out of state and international employers. Attend group meetings and serve on committees to ensure collaboration and coordination in support of University and College co-op goals, objectives and policies, and perform other duties as assigned.
