Assistant Controller - Water Solutions
The Water Solutions Segment Accounting Assistant Controller assists in overseeing the accounting, financial statements, analysis and reporting functions of NGL's Water Segment. Directly supporting the Water Solutions Segment Accounting Controller and working closely with NGL executives, this role serves as a business partner and expert advisor to help achieve success within the Company's lines of business, while maintaining compliance and internal control requirements.
The Water Solutions Segment Accounting Assistant Controller also supports the SVP/Corporate Controller of Accounting and Water Segment Business Unit Leaders. In addition, this individual actively contributes to the Tulsa Corporate Accounting strategies.
General Duties and Responsibilities
Direct and execute the accounting and financial reporting activities of the NGL Water Segment line of business, ensuring organizational compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and other established policies and procedures.
Monitor adherence to policies and procedures, including internal controls as contemplated under requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Law.
Maintain and apply working knowledge of Standards for Business Controls and meet management expectations for effective internal controls.
Oversee and review Water Segment financials, including monthly results and unique transactions, and manages submission in accordance with the monthly closing schedule and as necessary to meet all internal and external financial reporting deadlines, including SEC reporting (including Forms 10-Q and 10-K) and other regulatory reporting.
Prepare financial statements and monitor the evaluation of actual/plan variances.
Work closely with Water Segment Executive management to communicate financial data and identify operational and financial improvement opportunities.
Model professional behavior and follows all NGL policies and procedures.
Review accounting related to Fixed Assets, including AFE and CIP tracking.
Participate in the financial integration of Water Segment acquisitions.
Support the SVP/Corporate Controller of Accounting as requested, specifically related to understanding and control of Water Segment financial results.
Assist in the preparation of the annual budget.
Recommend, develop, obtain approval, and implement changes in operating procedures and standards to maximize productivity.
Respond to audit information requests, both internal and external, in a prompt manner.
Other duties as assigned.
Regular attendance at the worksite is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Proven record of thoughtfully executing projects and initiatives with minimal guidance.
Aptitude for "best practice" process flow and ability to identify enhancements and implement modifications where impactful.
Ability to maintain stability under pressure and be flexible and willing to modify plans, priorities, and behavior when necessary.
Exceptional oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to build credibility and interact with employees and business associates at all levels.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), with advanced knowledge of Excel.
Competency using large-scale ERP/Accounting systems, with Oracle and Right Angle experience preferred.
Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical skills.
Demonstrated success in managing fiscal, technical and human resources.
Capacity to understand operational aspects of NGL's business units quickly.
Ability to project professionalism at all times and demonstrate a high ethical standard, adhering to all NGL policies and workplace standards.
Must be dependable with a stable work history.
Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting is required.
CPA designation is required.
3-5 years of public accounting experience is preferred.
3-5 years of energy industry accounting experience including extensive experience with SOX compliance and SEC reporting requirements is a plus.
Minimum of 3 years' experience managing and leading employees, and directly interacting with executive management.
Up to 5% travel may be required.
