Sotheby's Concierge Auctions is seeking an Assistant Controller to join our team. The Assistant Controller will report to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and will own the accounting function for the organization. This is a perfect position for someone who has been in an accounting leadership position and wants to be more hands on in the day-to-day business, or someone who is looking for the opportunity to be involved in all areas of accounting as a growth opportunity. Sotheby's Concierge Auctions operates with transparency, and the candidate should have a level of comfort with the financial statements that they can explain and answer questions from various people at the Company.

RESPONSIBILITIES (Responsible for all accounting duties including, but not limited to):

  • Accounts payable
  • Accounts receivable
  • General bookkeeping
  • Lead month end closing and production of financial statements
  • Credit card and bank account reconciliation
  • Employee expense reports and reimbursements
  • Management Reporting- Prepare value added analysis of variances to prior periods, budget and trends
  • Compliance Reporting - monthly, quarterly and annual reporting to external third parties
  • Fixed Asset tracking- Computers, equipment, etc
  • Manage tax filings with our third party specialists domestic and aboard
  • Payroll and commission processing
  • 401k Retirement plan - make deposits, handle compliance filings
  • Review current accounting systems and procedures and make recommendations
  • Act as lead liaison with external auditors to ensure reviews/audits are efficient and timely
  • Adhoc analysis, forecasting, and budgeting requests
  • Additional accounting and finance tasks that may arise as business evolves
  • Responsible for maintaining and enhancing internal controls



  • 7-10 years of experience in multiple areas of accounting
  • Non manufacturing background
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required
  • CPA a plus
  • Proficiency in Quickbooks required
  • Proficiency in Excel required
  • Experience with SAP
  • Experience with Salesforce
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures including US GAAP required
  • Strong data analysis and interpretation skills required
  • Passion for accuracy, details, and organization required
  • Public Accounting experience a plus
  • Treasury/Cash Management experience a plus
  • Experience financial reporting a plus
