Assistant Controller - Refining

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to Chief Accounting Officer and Corporate Controller, this position is generally responsible for the accounting and reporting for CVR Energy's refining and marketing business along with supporting logistic operations. Specifically, this position and the managers and staff that report to him/her ensures the timely and accurate completion of general ledger accounting for hydrocarbon and non-hydrocarbon inventories, bulk and lease crude oil purchasing and sales, bulk refined product purchasing and sales, blendstock and other feedstock purchasing and sales, internal and external terminalling and transportation activities, and fixed and variable operating expenses across all refining, marketing and logistics operations. This role also serves as the lead for cross-functional activities associated with the accounting function's shared services (e.g. accounts payable, billings), corporate accounting, asset accounting and SEC reporting groups. This individual will be expected to have complete functional and technical knowledge of the financial statements for the refining, marketing and logistics operations, have a complete understanding of accounting processes and systems within his/her area of responsibility, ensure SOX compliance across all activities within his/her area of responsibility, and have excellent communication skills to drive strong relationships with the front office, operational, accounting management, internal and external auditors and executive teams. This individual will be expected to be a thought leader in relation to accounting processes, systems and technical matters by his/her staff, peers, the Chief Accounting Officer, and the Chief Financial Officer.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required

• Master's Degree in Accounting or Business Administration is strongly preferred

• CPA is required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• 12+ years of accounting and financial reporting experience required, with strong preference given to individuals with experience in accounting within the refining and marketing industry.

• A demonstrated deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP is required, including the ability to assist with or document technical position papers, as needed.

• Experience leading teams of 10 or more individuals and multiple sites is preferred.

• Experience with significant process and system redesign efforts (e.g. ETRMs) desired, with strong preference given to those with experience in significant roles for ETRM application projects

• Experience and knowledge regarding Sarbanes-Oxley and internal controls required.

• Experience working with RightAngle, Petroman, Oracle and other similar applications is desired.

• Demonstrated strong supervisory, leadership and decision-making skills required.

• Demonstrated ability as a team leader required.

• Advanced skills in Microsoft Office suite required.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES.

• Oversight of, and direct involvement in, the accounting functions associated with CVR Energy's refining, marketing, and logistics operations, including field accounting processes. This includes all aspects of the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, reconciliation and basic reporting functions associated with general ledger management, external and internal audit management.

• Develop and maintain a strong, positive relationship with the front office, middle office, and other operational groups to meet objectives.

• Responsible for timely identification of technical matters within areas of responsibility and communication of such matters to the Chief Accounting Officer, engagement of internal technical accounting resources, if needed, and implementation of any resulting process, system or documentation changes required.

• Lead his/her areas of responsibility through cross-functional efforts, including special projects, recurring analysis and reporting, and budgeting and forecasting, in support of organizational objectives.

• Direct and monitor all third-party relationships applicable to areas of responsibility.

• Responsible for monthly and quarterly analytics of financial statements for the refining, marketing, and logistics operations in support of other accounting and finance groups' deliverables.

• Responsible for the timely and accurate completion and delivery of key operational and financial reporting for areas of responsibility to internal stakeholders

• Manage the development of schedules and related support for external reporting needs.

• Manage the audit and review procedures for areas of responsibility and provide information as needed to independent auditors and internal auditors.

• Compliance and adherence to controls for SOX 404, including being a significant control and process owner. Ensure that individuals in the business are developed and understand their responsibilities under SOX 404.

• Lead, with the support of the Chief Accounting Officer, evaluation of current and potential business and system processes associated with the refining, marketing, and logistics operations.

• Set measurable objectives and goals for the accounting team.
