Position Summary

The VP, Assistant Controller is a member of Redwood Trust's leadership team and partner's directly with the MD, Controller to oversee accounting at the Company. In addition, this individual ensures compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley by maintaining controls and procedures that provide assurance regarding the reliability of the Company's financial reporting over defined areas of responsibility. It is expected that the Assistant Controller provides leadership in building the financial processes, systems and staff necessary to meet the future growth of the company. Responsibilities & Duties

  • Direct oversight of the corporate accounting function including accounts payable, payroll, and stock-based compensation accounting

  • Review SEC reporting disclosures over areas of responsibility

  • Work closely with internal business groups to evaluate the accounting impact of new transactions; work with department peers to operationalize transactions

  • Act as team lead for key systems implementations and process re-engineering projects

  • Responsible for the documentation, implementation, and maintenance of accounting policies

  • Responsible for the design and effective operation of internal controls over financial reporting in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley

  • Act as the primary interface with the Company's internal audit department

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics, plus a CPA license

  • 8+ years of experience, ideally including experience at a large public accounting firm, and in a senior accounting role in the financial services industry

  • Technical accounting experience in areas including loan accounting, securities accounting, fair value accounting, and consolidation a plus

  • Experience in managing technology projects and refining business processes

  • Excellent writing skills related to technical memorandums

  • Teambuilding, an open communication style, and the ability to forge close working relationships throughout the company will be paramount to the success of the individual

Although we often collect the personal information described above directly from you, we may also collect certain information from references, recruiters, job-related social media sites (such as LinkedIn), background check providers and publicly available sources. In addition, we may also collect this information through service providers and other third parties that collect it on our behalf, such as communications providers, scheduling providers and application providers.

Our Use of Personal Information

We use the personal information we collect during the recruiting process and when you apply for a job with us to:
