What you will do
Hart & Cooley, a division of Johnson Controls, is currently looking for a high-performing and energetic Assistant Controller to work in our business unit headquarters in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The Assistant Controller is responsible for directing the financial activities for the Grand Rapids office, managing the overall month end close process, and serving as the commercial finance lead for Hart & Cooley. You will provide analysis, counsel, advice and recommendations to help department leads make business decisions to achieve goals and objectives. A team player with strong analytical skills will be needed to provide financial planning and analysis leadership for sales, pricing, and SG&A. You should also have excellent communication skills and have the ability to lead and work with all levels of the organization.
How you will do it:
Report sales, pricing, and SG&A financial results and variance analysis vs plan, forecast, and prior year.
Oversee month-end close activities including journal entry approval for all Hart & Cooley ledgers.
Prepare annual profit plan, quarterly forecasts and outlooks.
Hold monthly department reviews to analyze spending vs plan and forecast.
Report capital spending and manage CIP transfers.
Manage rebates and commissions.
Approve purchase requisitions for all Hart and Cooley locations.
Manage company vehicle fleet.
Assist in preparation/review of CAR (Capital Appropriation Requests) financial justifications for Grand Rapids office.
Manage Oracle chart of accounts and approve access requests.
Perform balance sheet reconciliations for all assigned accounts.
Prepare and lead the financial discussion for monthly operational reviews.
Ensure adherence to Corporate and Divisional accounting/internal control procedures, SOX compliance and reporting requirements.
Perform special studies and analyses as requested by regional controller and/or business unit leadership.
What we look for:
Bachelor's Degree Accounting or Finance Required
5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment with previous controller experience.
Proficiency in Excel, Oracle, and Hyperion Financial Management (HFM).
Excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills.
Strong knowledge of internal controls, US GAAP accounting, and SOX compliance.
Outstanding ability to communicate, motivate and partner with business operation leaders.
