Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Inc. is an infrastructure contractor that excels at large, complex projects. Our projects include highways, bridges over land and water, tunnels, wastewater and potable water treatment plants and rail civils. Balfour Beatty Infrastructure in Wilmington, North Carolina is seeking an Assistant Controller. The Assistant Controller will assist the Controller and/or CFO with the financial affairs of the organization and with preparation of financial analyses of operations for the guidance of management. Directs and supervises the financial services staff in accounting and financial reporting/analysis activities.

Essential Functions

  • Prepares and analyzes reports that summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expense, and earnings based upon past, present and expected operations and risks. This may include: summary reports on project progress, monthly overhead reports, balance sheet, financial statement, income statement, etc.

  • Prepares and approves all journal entries.

  • Participates in various internal financial audits.

  • Maintains financial projection system.

  • Reviews owner contracts.

  • Coordinates and prepares quarterly projections and annual plan in concert with Operations management.

  • Analyzes and communicates to management variances between projections and actuals.

  • Ensures compliance with accounting policies, procedures and internal controls.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.

  • 7 years or more of experience in an Accountant or Finance role.

  • Extensive knowledge/experience in U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is required.

  • Demonstrates proficiency using a personal computer (PC) and company communication tools, such as email, internet, accounting applications and Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Excel, Office, Outlook).

  • Periodic travel to job sites is required.

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred

  • Accounting or Finance experience in the A/E/C industry, highly desired.

  • Supervises and develops direct reports while prioritizing and delegating significant responsibilities to others.

  • Demonstrates solid presentation skills and verbal/written skills.

  • Demonstrates the ability to organize people, tools and equipment to orchestrate multiple activities at once.

Job Summary Under minimal supervision, performs a variety of assignments such as: monitoring construction progress to assure proper installation sequences and compliance with schedule and contract requirements; assisting in the review and modification of schedules, specifications, and drawings; recognizing basic construction or engineering problems, and applying standard techniques and procedures to resolve same; preparing short-term schedules to identify potential scheduling problems and recommending possible solutions; reviewing completed construction work and maintaining checklist of items yet to be completed; and coordinating the activities of a survey team. Essential Responsibility * Liaison between client, contractor, and design staff. * Implements plans and specifications. * Prepares project correspondence. * Facilitates project progress meetings. * Prepares and monitors internal HNTB project controls. * Assists in the overall administration of projects. * Assures construction activities are in accordance with contractual documents and are completed within budget and schedule. * Performs other duties as assigned.
