Job Description:

General Statement of Duties:

The Assistant Comptroller is responsible for managing the day-to-day activity of the fiscal operations of the college. This includes maintaining, updating, and reconciling the general ledger, supervising accounting transactions, complying with fiscal policies and procedures, assisting in financial reporting.

Responsibilities:

  • Co-supervises accounting staff, also assist in the recruitment, hiring and training of employees.

  • Maintain the chart of accounts as well as provide oversight of the reconciliation of all general ledger accounts.

  • Approves accounting transactions.

  • Oversees non-appropriated funds activity on the MMARS system and the reconciliation of MMARS system to internal ledgers.

  • Assists in development of fiscal policies and procedures and maintains and updates fiscal policies and procedures manuals.

  • Assists in preparation of fiscal reports for internal or external constituents.

  • Manages annual audit including preparation of year-end accounting entries, reconciliations and schedules.

  • Oversees monthly reconciliation and performs fiscal year end closing procedures and ongoing financial analysis as needed.

  • Management, compliance and process of the procurement and accounts payable functions with a best practices approach.

  • Assist in the review and improvement of financial system processes, aid in departmental efficiency by automating manual accounting processes.

  • Create and update as needed documentation of procedures in the use of the administrative software and report writing and query functions.

  • Supports the teaching and learning process; works to create and support student centered environment.

  • Works with other areas of the college to ensure a spirit of college-wide collaboration, collegiality, civility and teamwork.

  • Embraces and supports the principle that "diversity is everybody's business" through the daily performance of duties and responsibilities.

  • Provides flexible, responsive and high quality customer service to all whom we serve, be it students, community or staff and continuously assesses processes and procedures to revise accordingly.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in Accounting or related field.

  • 5 years of progressive accounting experience

  • Experience with computerized financial accounting system

Required Skills, Abilities, and Aptitudes:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to function independently with a minimum of direct supervision.

  • Proficiency in both oral and written communications.

Desired Qualifications :

  • CPA, CMA or MBA or equivalent work experience.

  • Experience in Higher Education financial operations.

  • Familiarity with State Accounting System (MMARS).

  • Experience with Ellucian/Banner.

  • Three years supervisory experience in an accounting office environment.

Additional Information:

Salary: $95,000.00-$115,000.00
