Primary Job Functions: To assist the Preschool Instructor in educating students.

Minimum Qualifications and Credentials Required:

1.Educational Requirements: A high school education; successful completion of Praxis Examination or two years of college; or certified, licensed teacher (preferred).

2.Possess Skills and Knowledge: Communicates effectively with students, staff, and parents. Has basic knowledge of how to instruct students.

3.Experience: At least one year experience in early childhood programs (i.e. day care, community programs), or experience as an elementary classroom assistant, or post-high school work in education or related field.

4.Certification: Elementary/Preschool license preferred

5.Other: To maintain a positive relationship with pupils, staff, parents, and the community.

SALARY BENEFITS: Hourly pay starting at $17.94 and commensurate with school experience.

ASSIGNED WORK DAYS PER YEAR: 185 days (School Year Days) 20 Hrs a week

Essential Functions:

1.Works every day that students attend.

2.Assist teacher's instructional delivery.

2.1 Assist student's in small group learning situations.

3.Assist the teacher with instructional related tasks.

4.Communicate effectively with parents, Preschool Instructor, and Preschool Childcare and Activities Assistants regarding student participation in program.

5.Assist in supervising students according to the schedule developed by the building Principal.

6.Serve as the resource of information and help the substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the Preschool Instructor.

7.Collaborate and plan with preschool staff.

8.Maintain the high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.

9.Participate in professional development, as assigned.



  1. Assist with supervision of students during recess, lunch or opening and dismissal activities as assigned by the Principal.

  2. Avon Seedlings Preschool Assistant may not


11.1 Have the sole responsibility of teaching units of study.

11.2 Be assigned exclusively to non-instructional duties.

11.3 Exclusively replace the classroom teacher in the teacher's assigned supervision duties.

11.4 Substitute for an absent teacher. If the Avon Seedlings Preschool Assistant is a licensed substitute teacher, he/she may substitute on an emergency basis and will be paid substitute pay.

  3. Other instructional related tasks as assigned by the Preschool Instructor or Principal.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
