Description
An assistant coach in the Fisk University Department of Athletics is expected to reflect and carry out the wishes of the head coach of the particular sport they work within as long as that vision or expectation is not in conflict with the policies, procedures, rules and regulations of the Department, the University, or any regulatory body to which the University's athletics program subscribes. The expectation of any employee of the Department of Athletics is that the interest of the University and its students comes first and foremost in the operation of its component activities.
Fisk University is a member of the NAIA and the HBCU Athletic Conference. Fisk University is committed to student success in the classroom as well as in competition and expects to be competitive in those sports that it offers.
Assistant coaches are the most visible representatives of the University and in being so are held to a very high level of scrutiny and expectations. As a highly visible University representative of the students, faculty, staff, administration and alumni they are expected to carry themselves and express themselves in a manner commensurate with the great tradition and reputation of the University.
Assistant coaches should adhere to all University and NAIA rules, regulations and bylaws. They are required to report any known NAIA violations to the Compliance Coordinator, Head Coach or Athletics Director.
Receive direction and supervision from head coach on issues including but not limited to: Recruitment of student-athletes.
Provide monthly recruiting updates to the Director of Athletics and Admissions designee. Assist in preparation and execution of practices and game plans. Prepare team travel arrangements for team away games.
Attend and work all home games, matches, and meets when you are not competing. Work with Sports Information Director to manage home game set-up. Attend staff, admissions, athletic conferences, and institutional meetings/events when required.
Knowledge and adherence to Fisk University Athletics Department Handbook, NAIA and Conference rules/regulations regarding recruiting, eligibility, competition and compliance. Responsible for student-athlete skill development, team management, service and outreach projects, and academic monitoring. Promote and foster a positive learning experience for student-athletes. Other duties as assigned.
Specific Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Should possess knowledge of fundamental techniques and skills of the sport in Track and Field and be able to demonstrate and instruct those fundamentals, techniques, and skills in such a manner as to be understood by the student athletes in the program.
Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Must be able to work within the framework of a team oriented work environment.
Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally, including written, interpersonal and public speaking.
Must be willing to work flexible hours
Possess commitment to the Student-Athlete experience.

Qualifications
Education: Preferred bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
Desired Experience: Minimum of 2 years of progressively more responsible professional experiences in the area of athletics and coaching. Proven ability to recruit, develop, and retain high-quality student-athletes from diverse backgrounds, and effective communication skills.
