REPORTS TO: HEAD COACH, MEN'S SOCCER

STATUS: FULL-TIME, EXEMPT, SALARIED

Lake Erie College, a small, co-educational, four-year, independent liberal arts college located in Painesville, OH, 30 miles east of Cleveland, invites applications for the full-time position of assistant coach, men's soccer. The assistant coach is responsible for duties as assigned by the head coach, soccer and will manage a secondary responsibility as defined. Lake Erie College is an NCAA Division II program that competes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Acts as a visible person to represent the College in a positive manner and to heighten the awareness of the institution to all of its constituents.

  • Assists in all phases of coaching for men's soccer team.

  • Develops and promotes a highly-competitive NCAA Division II program.

  • Assists in the organization of the day-to-day operations of the men's soccer program. This will include:

  • Assists in recruiting qualified student-athletes to participate in the men's soccer program, promoting Lake Erie College academic and athletic programs, while maintaining strong, positive relationships with the Office of Admissions.

  • Ensures that players associated with the soccer program are eligible under NCAA, Great Midwest Athletic Conference and Lake Erie College rules.

  • Effectively monitors student-athlete academic progress, referring or counseling where appropriate, and motivating the athlete.

  • Breaks down game/training film, including coordinating/overseeing film exchange.

  • Designs and implements training plans and execution.

  • Helps execute team fundraising efforts, including participation in camps and clinics, as well as other various activities.

  • Oversees the direction of the Men's Reserve Team.

  • Leads planning and execution of camps and clinics.

  • Projects and promotes an inclusive education with the highest standards, where student-athletes are empowered to leave lives of personal significance and professional success as global citizens.

  • Acts as an ambassador of the College and conducts oneself in a positive manner to heighten the awareness of the institution to all of its constituents.

  • Operates within the mission of the College and athletics department to ensure a full NCAA DII student-athlete experience.

  • Follows all institutional, GMAC and NCAA regulations regarding men's soccer and athletics in general.

  • Scouts and evaluates potential recruits.

  • Works closely with the promotional and team fundraising efforts.

  • Helps promote visibility and awareness of the men's soccer team

  • Assists with athletes' study hall coverage and coordination.

  • Assists with all game setups and operations.

  • Availability to work evenings and weekends and to travel for team practices, competition and scouting.

  • Assists with transportation of team in vans or bus, upon approval.

  • Other duties as assigned by the head coach, men's soccer or vice president for student affairs/director of athletics.

Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • Must have demonstrated ability to recruit prospective student-athletes.

  • Prior NCAA DII soccer playing or coaching experience preferred.

  • Must have strong team-building and management skills.

  • Growth and "doer" mindset and institutional teamwork ethic.

  • Creative, strategic, thoughtful, and has a sense of humor.

  • Must have good jokes and banter. No personalities of a plank of wood!

  • Must have ability to work across academic and administrative departments in a cooperative manner.

  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to supervise respective staff, as well as understand the student-athletes' commitment to academics, is a must.

  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and the community.

  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Qualified applicants will have the availability to work evenings and weekends, possess a valid driver's license for transportation of team in vans or bus and have the ability to travel for team practices, competition and scouting.

Under the NCAA Bylaw 11.1.6 Sports-Safety Training, each head coach and all other coaches who are employed full time at an institution shall maintain current certification in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillator (AED) use.

All members of the department of athletics are responsible for knowing and following all institutional, Conference and NCAA regulations regarding recruiting and operations of the program. If regulations are not followed and result in a violation, employees are expected to self-report the violation to the compliance office or to the director of athletics. Additionally, employees must understand that those who knowingly violate, conceal, or attempt to cover up violations of NCAA rules shall be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
