Otterbein University is seeking an Assistant Men's and Women's Wrestling Coach.  This position will also include the secondary duty of weight room supervisor. Otterbein University is a NCAA Division III institution, competing in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Located in Westerville, OH.   Otterbein is a liberal arts institution with a highly competitive athletic history. The Men's program is heading in to its 9th season while the Women's program will begin its first season of competition in 2024-25.  This is a full-time, 12 month per year, exempt position.

  • Candidates must be able to teach proper technique and skill development in wrestling. Candidates should have a complete and thorough understanding of the sport and be able to instruct student-athletes in small group and one-on-one settings.

  • Applicants should have a familiarity with various mental approaches in wrestling and be able to instruct student-athletes in this area.

  • The assistant wrestling coach will assist the head coach in reviewing performances of wrestlers and in scouting and preparing for opponents.

  • A thorough understanding of NCAA and OAC rules and regulations is required. The assistant coach must adhere to these rules and help ensure that the program follows all rules, regulations and guidelines. The ability to articulate these to student-athletes is also required.

  • This position will help supervise practices and be on the bench for wrestling matches. The assistant coach will be heavily involved in home game-day setup, teardown and in facility preparation.

  • This position requires the ability to recruit potential student-athletes. The assistant wrestling coach will be required to recruit off campus and be involved in on-campus visits. The position will assist the head coach in developing the overall recruiting plan.

  • This position reports to the head wrestling coach and the athletic director. This position includes day to day supervision of the Rike Center weight room.

  • Bachelor's degree is required

  • Candidates should have previous experience coaching wrestling on either the high school or college level (college level experience is preferred)

  • Candidates must have the ability to successfully impart knowledge on all areas of wrestling

  • Valid driver's license and ability to establish driver eligibility under Otterbein's Driving and Motor Vehicle Policy.

  • Ability to identify and recruit student-athletes is required

  • Position requires well-developed communication skills, as well as strong time management and organizational skills

  • Ability to work weekends and evenings is required. This position requires extensive travel, both in recruiting and to competitions
