This position will act as one of the clinical research coordinators for research projects in the Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine Division's Clinical Research Unit. The primary responsibilities of this position will involve day-to-day management of clinical trials in areas of data management and regulatory administration relating to new and ongoing clinical research in the department. The position requires the use of skills to independently or, with general direction, coordinate and follow through in the overall administration and outcome of clinical studies. The clinical research coordinator will have responsibility for on-call activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Assistant Clinical Research Coordinator

  • Administrative skills and ability to exercise good judgment, initiative and resourcefulness in making decisions.

  • Analytical skills to evaluate information, practices and procedures, formulate logical and objective conclusions and make recommendations for effective solutions.

  • Ability to quickly develop functional understanding of the field of study (pulmonary and critical care medicine) as applied to clinical research as well as relevant research and administrative protocols and workflows.

  • Ability to quickly develop functional understanding of clinical research trials regulations and policies (including but not limited to local research policies and standard operating procedures, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) is essential.

  • Possess mathematical abilities to perform calculations such as basic accounting, subject scheduling windows calculation, basic physiology (e.g. body surface area) and drug dosage calculations.

  • Ability to work occasional overtime as work demands.

  • Ability to travel on occasion for training and educational purposes and to attend meetings including those regarding multi-center studies.

Clinical Research Coordinator

  • Must be completed within 90 days of hire. All research personnel conducting human subjects research under the auspices of UC Davis must be certified via the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) program. 1) Certification of laboratory safety training must be achieved on an annual basis. 2) Certification for the shipment of dangerous goods is required every two years. 3)Certification from the University of California Annual Compliance Briefing for Researchers.

  • Previous experience in the conduct of clinical research

  • Functional understanding of clinical research trials regulations and policies (including but not limited to local research policies and standard operating procedures, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) is essential.

Sr. Clinical Research Coordinator (Sr. CRC):

  • Must possess and maintain certification as a Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) and/or a Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) and/or Associate (CCRA) through SoCRA and/or ACRP.

  • Minimum two years of experience as a clinical research coordinator with demonstrated increasing level of responsibility.

Department Description

The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine is the 2nd largest of 11 divisions in the Department of Internal Medicine. The Division is comprised of 30 faculty clinicians/researchers and staff physicians, as well as 2 nurse practitioners. The Division operates an active clinical research program, which includes over 20 clinical research staff, where the faculty are leaders in Asthma, COPD, Critical Care, Cystic Fibrosis, Interstitial Lung Disease, and Pulmonary Hypertension research. In addition, the Division manages 2 Clinical Fellows programs that have 18 combined fellows each year.

Salary or Pay Range: Assistant CRC: $28.17 - $45.36; CRC: $31.08 - $49.98; Sr. CRC: $37.72 - $60.65
