Responsibilities

The Assistant Claims Manager (ACM) is a leadership position that drives inspired leadership and improved quality for adjusting functions; ultimately achieving optimum service for our customers and associates. The ACM will help define and improve standard work. Works closely with Claims Managers and other senior leaders to ensure that our customers are served by engaged associates.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Builds, develops, and manages team of inspired associates, including people managers and individual contributors

  • Defines requirements for daily activities, including leadership huddles, service level adherence, customer communication standards, and goals and objectives that align to our core values

  • Measures performance against established performance quality standards as defined by senior management; Ensures claims handling quality is achieved

  • Partners with Claims Managers and other Senior Leaders to achieve productivity standards

  • Ensures best practices are followed and continuously seeks ideas for process improvement

  • Monitors and participates in quality control and reviews

  • Responsible for filling in for Claims Manager in their absence

  • Performs analyses of productivity, quality, service, process, and makes recommendations for improvement

  • Responsible for the employment, performance evaluation, recognition, motivation, counseling, and development of all assigned associates; assists associates define individual development plans.

Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership skills that inspires leaders and individual contributors to demonstrate a customer obsessed culture

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational, time and project management skills; able to work well under deadlines in a changing environment and perform multiple tasks effectively and concurrently

  • Able to influence others and move toward a common vision or goal

  • Strong analytic, statistical and critical thinking skills

  • Able to communicate results of complex analyses to non-technical audience

  • Able to work effectively at all levels in an organization

  • Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skill

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)

Experience / Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management, a related field, or equivalent education required.
  • 5 years of supervisory/management experience required
  • 3 years' Claims experience required

PRIMARY PURPOSE: To process low level general liability claims to determine benefits due; to ensure ongoing adjudication of claims within company standards and industry best practices; and to identify subrogation of claims and negotiate settlements with general supervision. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES * Processes low level general liability claims by gathering information to determine liability exposure; assigns reserve values to claims, making claims payments as necessary, and settling claims up to designated authority level. * Develops and coordinates low level general liability claims' action plans to resolution, return-to-work efforts, and approves claim payments. * Approves and processes assigned claims, determines benefits due, and administers action plan pursuant to the claim or client contract. * Administers subrogation of claims and negotiates settlements. * Communicates claim action with claimant and client. * Ensures claim files are properly documented and claims coding is correct. * May process low-level lifetime medical and/or defined period medical claims which include state and physician filings and decisions on appropriate treatments recommended by utilization review. * Maintains professional client relationships. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES * Performs other duties as assigned. * Supports the organization's quality program(s). * Travels as required. QUALIFICATION Education & Licensing Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
